PCOS Definition:
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) – A genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation. PCOS also may cause overproduction of estrogen, abnormal thickening of the uterine lining, very heavy and/or irregular periods, as well as acne and facial hair. The latter are caused by an overproduction of male hormones, including testosterone. -- There are tons of info out there on the web, so if you want more info, just go to your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc) and type in PCOS. Another great site (besides this one of course for info is: Soul Cysters. Also here are a couple links for Forum Abbreviations: Basic Forum Abbreviations and the TTC/Infertility Abbreviations

8) To be the best me possible!!! That includes trying to dress nicer and I'm getting my hair done this month too!!
9) To continue reaching out to people!!!
10) to help others in need!!!
Yes there are a lot of them, but I have faith in myself!!!!
Well I'm sick, well at least my throat is VERY VERY sore and DH said that is exactly how he started out!
So I plan on doing nothing today because its back to work tomorrow night and I cannot call off this week because my coworker is on vacation so its just me this week!! But if I get what DH has, then my boss will just have to deal with it!
I'm sorry you're sick, Sassy - I hope you can knock it out quick! We've had something passing around in my family for a couple of weeks, but so far I have escaped it.
How did everybody do in October? What were your goals, and what did you achieve? I wanted to lose 5 pounds, which I did, but somehow found it again when I weighed this morning! I'm also super bloated. I feel very PMS, but I'm post menopausal so that isn't the case. Hopefully I've got 5 pounds of water behind my bellybutton!
November goal: 5 pounds again. I'm eating an uber healthy Thanksgiving dinner this year. Not sure what exactly, but it will be yummah!
Hi all! Im Tonya. New to this group. I lost 32 pounds in the beginning of the year. Just started on metformin about 3 weeks ago, hoping that will help break my plateau. I have about 49 pounds to go. Just found this group! Best wishes to everyone!
Happy November everyone! I hope everyone has been doing well. This month is going to be crazy. My baby turns one on the 16th. It kinda makes me sad. Then with the holidays coming up....boy will it be a difficult month.
Hi everyone! I'm also fairly new to the group. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago but never really knew anything about it until this year. I have been doing lots of research and finding lots of useful info. My doctor currently has me on Metformin 500mg a day and I only have my period maybe every couple of months. I have heard from reading many of your posts that 500 mg isn't enough or the common dosage?? Should I go see my doctor about it? I am trying to find someone to help keep me accountable for my eating. I tend to overeat on a daily basis. Also what are the best goals for exercise minutes for the month? Or how many miles should you walk in a month to have a good amount of exercise? Any info would be helpful.
Mikeysangel -- I am currently on Fortamet, which is a form of Metformin, only a bit different, cuz it doesn't cause me any tummy troubles like the met does. I am on 500 mg Twice a day, so 1000 mg. + 5 mg of Glipizide ( I am a diabetic) and I dunno about the Fortamet, but I do know that the Glipizide works wonders. I know how can 5 mg of something do that much? But it does!
What I would do is write down all your questions for your DR then schedule an appointment to ask him and be sure to tell the receptionist when you schedule that you would like some extra time with the dr to discuss some things, that way they won't be hurried. Working together with your dr, you will find the right dosage and medication for you.
I hope that helps.
Hi Xray & Jen!
My period on the other hand will NOT go away! She came yet AGAIN!!!! UGH. Why is it she always has to show up at the worst times? lol. I know I shouldn't complain but it is quite annoying having one keep coming back esp when you think "FINALLY its gone!" lol.
OK, so the scale was stuck for the month of November, it seemed that I ate more candy then I should have...I eating healthy meals but then also eating candy candy candy candy!
All the candy is now gone in my house so it's time to start fresh for November.
Small goals:
1- Try to make it to the gym at least 3 times a week or do some sort of cardio exercise for 30-45 minutes three times a week.
2- Try to be down 10 pounds by the end of November
3- Cut down on my startbucks drinks, only 2 per week (instead of 5). Granted I don't get the real high calorie drinks, and I mod then to be even lower in calories, but I didn't realize how much I was spending a month on Starbucks!
That's all for now, it's enough to work on!
OH! And for those chicks out there who are in college or have been in college...Can you give me some tips on making time to get to the gym? Or maybe some things to do to get some cardio in?
Mikeysangel, your doctor might just have you on a starter dose, or maybe if you are not insulin resistant, he might have you on a preventative dose. Do you know what your fasting insulin levels are?
Ray - suggestions for cardio - I know I need to practice what I preach, but an agenda is the only way I can get everything done. The larger ones at places like Office Depot, etc go from 7Am to 11pm. I schedule bed time, computer time, work time, exercise time, free time. I'm not in school, but with 3FC, homeschooling, and a full time job, I have a hard time also. It never ends. I've also found that scheduling an earlier bedtime so I can exercise in the AM is a much better bet for me. I'm too tired in the evenings, and can easily talk myself out of it!
All I have to say is Mucinex Rocks!!! I feel 100% better and I am so glad! Because this coming week is my long week and I don't want to waist any of my PTO time on being sick!
So I am EXTREMELY happy that I am feeling better!!!
I was even annoying my cat this morning so I KNOW I am feeling better! LMAO!!!
Jen -- Yes I feel SOOOO Much better!!! I was beginning to wonder if I was ever gonna feel well again! lol. Mucinex is the bomb ya'all! I should do a commercial for them!
Hi Jennifer- I checked my last test results to see what it said. My hemoglobin result was 5.5 in a range of <6.0 and my fasting insulin was 43 in a range of 2-25 being normal. She (my doctor) said that my sugar levels were ok but that my body didn't know what to do with the sugar I eat because of the insulin resistance. She said it is what caused the "skin tags", discolored skin, some of the weight gain, etc. I've researched the PCOS on the internet and learned more after talking to my doctor and the thing that makes me the saddest is the infertility.
Hey ya'll!!! I've kinda been out of sorts lately. I just recovered from a stomach bug of some sort. I think I lost about 10lbs from it. Probably not, it just feels like it. Now, my DH has it. Hopefully the kids don't get it. My baby turns one Sunday. It kinda makes me sad.
My DH and I have been talking about getting back on track and losing weight. I have been so bad for the past month or so. I really need to get back into my clean eating. I felt so much better for it, and it really isn't that hard. It's just more prep and organization of foods.
I hope everyone has been doing well.
