Default Second-Hand Bargains anyone else?

If you all are losing weight rapidly or thinking about WLS there are a few places to shop without breaking the bank. Salvation Army, Goodwills, Consignment shops, etc.

My bargain for the week came from Salvation Army. Every Wednesday is half price day so......two brand-new pair of uniform pants, one pair of blue uniform pants, one lab jacket and three uniform tops all for.......$17.80. Brandnew uniform pants are on sale this week for $12.00 plus tax.

I've gotten another contingent nursing job and don't want to invest in uniforms since I seem to still be going down and if I'm not working fulltime don't want to invest a lot right now. I also bought a bunch of Lands End, Talbot, Sears, JC Penneys, etc. turtle necks......why.....because I'm freezing my butt off. My DIL got me a down-fleece throw and for the first time in my life have a security blanket. Has anyone ever used something called "Hot Seat"? You put it in the microwave and heat it up and set on it. I need it to help warm my hands and other things. I'm going to be in the car a lot for this last job and need some help here.

you know, nanj, i always suspected that i was adopted and now i know it. jiff is not my real sister. BUT i think you must be. i am so glad to have finally found you!

shopping at the salvation army and its ilk is one of my favorite things to do. do you know i found a BEAUTIFUL stiffle lamp there for nine bucks? now how darn exciting was that?????!!!!!

i think though that my favorite thing to buy there is coats. i hate coats. i hate to wear them, i hate to buy them...but don't feel so bad buying them at the s.a. in fact it is kind of fun now. i have lots of coats now....beautiful wools in blacks, navy, and a hummmmdinger of a red. rain slickers. big warm denim winter coat with a hood. coats for the boys since they grow out of them so darn fast. some neat blazers and jackets too. i tend to dress in jeans, turtle neck and some kind of jacket. found a mint condition king size down blanket there for seven bucks....darn thing cost me thirty five to dry clean.

i think i like it most of all for the hunt though....it is just fun!!!!

now as to the heatie things....i have two. love them. sleep with those suckers every darn night. one is for around my neck and shoulders the other ones are slippers that burst and i put them in a little flannel bag. they are filled with seeds and after a while give off a funky herbal smell but i hear tell you can make them out of rice (not minute) and a tube sock....oh maybe i'll make one for jiff (not my real sister... one for christmas...although the chick problably wants scotch....oh well, who can blame her)

by the by jiff, i'd like to be moderated in blue today.

the only thing that keeps my toes and fingers warm....they go white and numb in the cold....are these little packs of toe and mitten warmers that you can get for about a dollar at the sports stores. you peel off the backing and stick them in your boots or mittens. i keep them with me all through the cold months. the other thing that i am never with out are fleece socks. LL bean sells them but i can get them at some local stores from any where from seven to twelve dollars a pair. tj max had them last year if you have one of them by you. i don't buy socks at the s.a. that kind of creeps me out.

cool leather stone mountain pocket book though....that was sweet.

ok, my injuns are getting wrestless in the other room...i don't know what it is about teenage boys and eating all the time....sheesh.

PEachie - are you saying that you need a pair of handknit, maybe even DOUBLE KNIT mittens for christmas? or something like that???

i went to goodwill today [looking for chairs for the DR table], and didn't find a darn thing - well, that's not QUITE True - i don't have the patience to go through all the racks of clothes.

but there was a toaster for 9, a krup espresso maker for 15, and several Forman grills.

i left them ALL there. just couldn't face having one more appliance!!! although, maybe if there had been a small crock pot...

anyway, congrats Nancy! it's like finding TREASURE in those places.

but i gotta confess that when i was standing there looking at all the glassware and stuff, i just started thinking about how it all used to have a home, and, maybe just like mom's house, no matter how much it was appreciated, it's now just more STUFF!!!!!!

yeah - sappy. i had to leave

Just a drive by to Peachie and her (non) sister Jiff, who I have not seen around in YEARS, I hear you on the food thing with the teenage boys, Mine wonder why we have to go to the market every other day and why there is no food left in the house!

I get those hand/feet warmers at costco by the box and I am very happy to have them.

Our school does a HUGE rummage sale and it is amazing what is one man's trash certainly is another man's treasure.

I hope the (non) sisters are doing well as are the rest of the chicks in the coop!

Miss you

I tell people that everything I own is either...second hand, from a discount store, given to me or taken up! LOL No point in buying clothes at full prices when I was out of a size in a matter of weeks, especially in the first 6 months! I love the clothing exchange my surgeon's support group has a couple times a year!

Just found a beautiful Red wool coat at the Salvation Army...$7! Woohoo! I have been so cold and am dreading winter! Wool is a good find! lol

While losing I bought all my clothes at Goodwill, Salvation Army or Savers. Among my finds are Bob Mackey and Calvin Klein. I get a lot of compliments on my clothes, I just smile and say "thank you". Even though I am at goal I can't quite break the habit, I bought a beautiful car coat the other day for $3.40 at Sallie's (AKA as Salvation Army).
