Default New to the group!

Hello everybody. I'm new to the group, trying to re-dedicate myself to my weight loss goals, since I've spent a good month eating terrible and forgetting the gym as I finished school and began working at my new job - but thank god, not regaining any weight.

I've been obese since puberty, never had regular cycles, but they went totally wacky in 2006. In 2007, when my symptoms got very bad - and still are (hirsuitism, acne, obesity, etc) - I went to a DR and was diagnosed because of the string of pearl cysts on my ovaries. (My mother has PCOS and has had both ovaries removed at different times for cysts.) He told me it was "curable" by diet and excerise, but had no suggestions aside from WLS.

I researched on my own and believe I have insulin resistance. I began taking cinnamon and chromium supplements, and got on the insulin resistance diet, losing 34lbs with little effort. Now, I've been eating poorly and neglecting to excerise (I do work on my feet though) and would like to get back on track and move toward my goals!

My name is Tasha. I'm 23, married to John, 24. I'm 225lbs, and would like to lose 15lbs by December 31st.

How does the cinnamon and chromium help?

I think it works great. I feel like my blood sugar doesn't bottom out like it used to, and I don't really crave sweets so much anymore. It works a lot better with a lower carb diet, I felt great when I was doing both.

Do you find that you dropped weight pretty quickly? I am struggling. I am exercising daily and doing 6 small meals a day. I am losing very slowly and am wondering if I should start the RX Metformin or start an herbal regimen such as yours. Was it expensive? How many times a day were the pills?

I lost weight fairly quickly - 10lbs a month. But I was also following (and am struggling to get back on) the insulin resistance diet. My DR wouldn't prescribe me metformin, and I'm sort of glad he didn't, since I've heard so many bad stories about it.

I take Cinn-Max Cinnamon, which you can get at Wal-Mart. It's two pills a day with a meal. This brand has chromium in it, but you can also buy that separately, or its in the One-A-Day for weightloss.
