Default Had to say I have quite that fad diet ol..

I was/am doing great on it diet wise-meaning sticking to it..but
I was going to bed hungry, waking up hungry, had headaches (prob due to not eating enough!) etc..

Hubby has lost 4 1/2 lbs this wk on it (he's lost 26.5 in the last several months watching portion control and walking at work when his work is done (He's the mgr; he can do that I guess? lol )

but I'm going on day six and havent lost a thing..not even water weight..

This week I have been forced to:

1. Eat B'fast
2. eat more fruits although all I've eaten was oranges; I normally didnt eat fruits like that..
3. Got me off sweet tea's..
4. Got me to eat lunches..
5. Got me to quit late night snacking..

I rarely ate til Dinnertime..because I am just so busy w/my business, being a single parent on the wks DH works (he's completely gone 77 hrs in one wk; not including travel time) with the 4 kids and all activities etcc..etc ..etc..

so we sat down tonight and talked..he said lets keep the things the same that HAVE been positive with this week;

1. No more sweet tea for you (I was drinking MANY MANY McD's $1 Sweet teas a wk) and at home we had sweet tea in the house that we made; 1 cup sugar per gallon of tea)...I agreed...he said he could buy some sweeteners tonight if I wanted for it..I said no, I don't like the aftertastes..

2. Keep eating b'fast and lunch

3. Make the late night snack an occasional thing; not an everynight thing..

4. mindful eating with portion control...but do not tell ourselves we CANNOT eat pizza or a chicago style hotdog or a couple jalapeno poppers or nachos..because he & I both know we'll binge if we do that.. instead of eating 5 poppers each...we'll have 2..you know..that type of thing...

5. Walk on the treadmill; yesterday I walked briskly 1 mile; watched the 70's show while I did it...

and for me to keep on going to Taekwondo on the wks he's home..

So I agreed, tomorrow night we have to attend a bonfire weiner roast; instead of eating their stuff; I'll bring my family a pack of FF hotdogs and whole wheat buns...instead of telling myself I can't have one.

and to celebrate; even though I was FLIPPIN RAVENOUS from starving myself all week long, I had 2 scoops of triple berry frozen yogurt. 120 calories for 1/2 cup; so yeah; that was probably not the best idea; but it was better than my PB&J sandwich I was gonna do? or the kids' leftover pizza right? (gosh I hope!)

I feel like a failure though; I couldnt even hack it for ONE week; and the worst thing is; everyone I know who has used this has lost 14 to 22 lbs in the 2 wks and YES so far they have kept it off..and my Taekwondo instructor is going to think I cheated; cause i didnt lose ANYTHING and he said that if I didnt lose anything it was because I cheated myself and lied to him...

uh..yeah..and its not like you can tell him thats not true either..and I didnt cheat..but yeah..I feel like a big fat failure..

but tomorrow is a new day and its all about a new lifestyle and the healthier choices right??

If you are ravenous then you are not eating enough.

You might want to figure out how many calories will get you weight loss you want. Your exercise will allow you to increase the number of calories per day to achieve the same results.

There is a calculator here that should help you.

Look at different sensible plans. Weight watchers for instance.
I am doing the ABS plan from Men's health. Whatever works for you.

If your ravenous then have a healthy snack an apple with some peanut butter or something like that.

Starving is not a way to lose weight over the long haul.

Mar, I'm glad you've ditched the fad diet! I think the changes you made this week were very positive. Nobody says we have to change everything all at one time. I didn't do it when I started losing weight and you can see by my ticker that it didn't keep me from losing weight.

As far as the others that have lost 14 - 22 lbs: that wasn't fat they lost. It was water and maybe a small amount of muscle mass and fat, but no possible way could it be all fat in that length of time. You keep making those changes and you will have caught up with them, because their weight loss won't continue. It will quickly plateau.

By the way, I think sooooo many people underestimate how important your second change is - eating breakfast and lunch. Good for you for making that change early. I truly believe it is one of the most important changes you listed. Keep it up!

Slow & positive changes; that's all you need!

Just remember, there will be days you fall off the wagon, but they shouldn't prevent you from getting back up.

Thanks; I'm starting to feel better about going off of it; I ate my frozen yogurt with my son while finishing the Harry potter movie and I told hiim, this is all we are getting, we don't ned to have 2 bowls of it. He didnt ask for anymore and when we were finished, he took the 2 bowls and put them in the dishwasher...

so no bowls sitting next to us with the smell of the berry yogurt..begging us to get more!!

I can do this!! slow n steady wins the race!~

These are all excellent changes you've made. Way to go!

It will get easier over time .. and you'll learn what foods satisfy you more and keep you feeling full for longer.

ok; so no one has pointed out that I shouldnt have had that frozen yogurt..so is that an ok dessert to have??

I'm not sure how to really know if its something I should avoid or not..(I mean I know regular ben/jerrys is a no no lol)

but this is schwans frozen triple berry yogurt
1/2 c is 120 calories..

I had two scoops; one of that kind and one of the frozen yogurt chocolate brownie
1/2 c is 120 calories

its not something I eat all the time either;...

hmm..doing that calculator you posted I get this:

You need 1820.2 calories per day to maintain your current weight without exercise.

You need 1650 calories per day to reach your goal weight slowly and maintain that weight without exercise.

If you reduce your current caloric intake to 1320.2 calories per day you will lose one pound per week without exercise.

If you increase your current caloric intake to 2320.2 calories per day, you will gain one pound per week.
(ACK Can you even believe how many calories I was consuming w/those McD's sweet teas????????)

I know it's hard to give up the Sweet Tea. I was drinking 2-3 a day. Keep up the work it will be worth it in the end

Hey Mar! 1/2 cup of frozen yogurt for 120 calories isn't a bad thing--but you do have to stick with 1/2 cup, and it should be a measured 1/2 cup (use a dry measuring cup--they are easier for something like this).

It's easy to overeat unmeasured foods without realizing it, and the next thing you know you've had 300 cals. of yogurt...

You're NOT a failure for hating being on a diet like that!

You're a success for figuring out how to incorporate healthy eating habits into your life!!!

And the frozen yogurt isn't an awful choice! It's all about moderation!!

I think you might be starting to get it here.

Many of your posts have contained some variation of "I thought I had to give that up" or "no one said I shouldn't have eaten that".

That's EXACTLY right. No one is telling you that you should never have frozen yogurt or hamburgers or pot roast or any of those things.

What you have to do is learn to incorporate those things into a healthy lifestyle.

See ... this is your LIFE. You have to come up with a way of eating that you can sustain for the rest of your life. I'm like you. I could never commit to something that said "you can never have chili again becuase it's bad for you" or "you can never eat frozen yogurt again". Good grief. What a way to live ... denying yourself the things you enjoy all the time!

The answer here is moderation and balance.

There's nothing wrong with a single serving of frozen yogurt for dessert or a snack. What's not healthy is eating 2 large bowls of it (the equivalent of 6 servings or more) as a meal. Twice a day.

There's nothing wrong with having a hamburger for lunch one day a week. What's not healthy is having a double cheeseburger with fries every single day for lunch.

It's not "all or nothing". It's moderation.

That's it.

I agree with everything everyone else has said, but I also want to add that your Taekwando instructor needs a good, swift kick!!! How DARE he say that you must have cheated if you didn't lose weight! Does HE know how everyone's body works... EXACTLY, to the last calorie burnt??? Everyone's body reacts differently to changes, and he has NO idea what your body should/would do with those changes. I can't believe that someone would say something so silly.

Sorry... I'll get down off my soapbox now. That comment just struck a nerve with me.
