Default Phase 2 - How many carbs are too many?

I started Phase 2 about a week and a half ago and its been going ok, and its pretty easy to live with. I haven't lost much weight though, after the 5lb I lost during week 2 of Phase 1...talking about maybe 1lb since I began Phase 2. I have only been eating 1, maybe 2 "good carbs" a day. I also haven't re-introduced fruit into my diet. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong? I was hoping for the weight to drop a little quicker.

Sounds like you're doing fine with your grains. Could you post a typical day's menu to give us a better idea? I wonder about things like nuts and cheeses and portion sizes.

Jewels! Weight loss of around 1-2 pounds a week (at most) is healthy and normal. There are many, many reasons why slow weight loss is best (you can read about many of them here in the forums--try searching), so be glad that you're losing slowly. However, if you'd like to lose slightly faster, you may find that eating different starches, exchanging one serving for a serving of fruit, etc. might help. Another issue that sometimes comes up is being too restrictive. Have you entered your daily calories into Fitday before? If you are getting too few calories (less than 1200 for most, could be higher for some), it might make your weightloss stall.

Are you exercising? Exercise helps immensely with weight loss and is highly recommended for health as well.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your responses! I am exercising...walking about 2 miles a day. Usually for breakfast I have a whole wheat English muffin w/ a slice of canadian bacon, a slice of low fat cheese, and sometimes an egg to make a sandwich out of it. For lunch I usually have a salad, or a veggie soup w/ no carbs. For snacks I have string cheese or some nuts (measured out) or maybe a cold, naked hot dog. For dinner I usually have a small salad, a small bowl of veggie soup, and some kind of low fat meat. Afterward I always have a sugar-free Popsicle. I think I may be having too much food - not too little. Although, my stomach growls a lot. Especially between breakfast and my mid morning snack.

maybe your not getting enough food if your tummy is growling. if our bodys don't get enough to eat they will hold on to what they do have. i see you don't eat very much meat or beans

Hi Jewels : )

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you on your loss thus far....that is absolutely wonderful .

I am new to the SBD too! tomorrow is my last day of PH1. Regarding your typical days menu, perhaps the more experienced beachers can help you out with tips tricks, etc. but just a few thoughts on my part: I know that everybodys body and responses are unique and different but always helps me in the weight loss dept. is the protein! Revs up the metabolism. When I have my salads for lunch, I cut up some strips of sliced chicken breast or turkey and mix it in.

2 more things came to mind. I'm wondering if you have been eating pretty much the same meals every day for a period of time. If that is the case sometimes the body can adapt or get too comfortable with the same meal plan day in and day out and stall....shaking things up a bit...diff. meals, diff. proteins, varying the meals...etc can get the body revved up again and help promote weight loss. I don't know if this helps, its still soon in the program maybe for this to happen but its food for thought. Also, with me........almost always,,, if I have a good or sign. loss the first few weeks...I may lose nothing the following week or very little. I view this as a stabilization period, my body adapting to its new weight and stabilizing that weight loss I had.

Hope this helps somewhat. Keep in mind that a pound here and a pound there sure add up over time. I think your doing super, keep up the awesome work and success is sure to follow.

After looking at your menu I agree with Laurie - it looks like you may not be eating enough! I know that sound weird if you've had years of dieting, but it can be a problem. Check out FitDay or Daily Plate and see how many calories you're getting. It shouldn't be less than 1200 and should probably be a bit higher this early (1500 - 1800?). It also looks pretty light on the veggies. You should be getting at least 4.5 cups a day, not all salad. remember you can eat all the veggies you want so you don't need to have a grumbly tummy I'd add some beans ( hummus, refried, beans on your salad) and more hefty veggies.

Thanks for the FitDay idea. That website is great! I entered in everything I ate yesterday and it was 1500 calories.
