Default New here..!

Hi Everyone! I'm new here, I was just thinking that I could use some support while dieting and trying to lose weight, so I decided to google for a supportive forum, and this one popped up!

I'm getting married in about a year. I really would love to lose as much weight as possible before my wedding. I don't want to hate all of my wedding pictures, I feel like if I don't get some weight off I will forever regret it every time I look back on the memories and pictures.

I have always been heavy. In 7th grade I lost a ton of weight, but I still was by no means "skinny" just regular. I guess the weight loss was due to puberty, I kept the weight off until 10th grade when i started slowly putting it back on. I'm now about to turn 23 and at my heaviest yet.

I have a thryoid problem and take medication to keep it active, but even with the medicine I've been gaining. 30 lbs since 2006 to be exact.

When I first was diagnosed with the thyroid issue I made many changes in my life, I started to skim milk, stoped drinking pop, didn't have fast food for 9 months, went to wheat bread, switched to a butter substute, and just really tried to do my best. I barely lost anything, so I gave up and started to occasionaly drink pop and eat fast food again, but I have kept the other lifestyle changes.

I feel like I need to work on exercising, and watching the types of food I eat.

My Fiance would also like to lose some weight, although he is not heavy like I am, he just just has a bit of a belly. We decided to try together and officaly started our diet Monday.

I've tried so many times in the past and just given up or failed, I really want to make things work this time. I'd like to lose 60-70lbs. Trust me, it would be good for me, not unhealthy. Ultimatly I need to lose more than that, but I would be esctatic to be that much lighter on my wedding day!

I'm sorry for the long winded background story, lol. I just wanted to introduce myself and see if anyone has any advice or good diet plans, pills, or ideas to help me meet my goal.

Thank you all so much for listening!!

Hey LCZ!

Hey, we are ALL ABOUT the long-winded background stories here. Just read mine-- Irish Accents and December Deadlines. You can't get more uselessly long-winded than that.

And a whole hearted might I say!!!!

Yeah, I've never been super skinny myself. Puberty stretched me out a little, but then once university hit, I started packing the pounds back on as well. It's maddeningly horrific to see yourself gaining, and not be able to find the will-power to work towards improvement, isn't'it?

We've got tons o' chicas trying to lose that much weight and more here, so you've definitely come to the right place!

Have you got a specific plan of action going on, or just watching what you eat and cutting out the pop and fast food garb? What do you do for exercise?

OH, and CONGRATS on your wedding, that's super exciting! Stick with 3FC and you'll be slipping into a much tinier wedding dress than you expected! These ladies are helpful and motivating, and AWESOME. If ever you're having trouble seeing the scale drop, or have an off-plan (junk food binge-type) day, it's a GREAT place to come and vent your guilt or frustration, or celebrate your successes and goals!!!

WELCOME again!!! Hope to talk to ya soon!

Awww, thanks Jelbb, that was just a sweet welcome! I feel better already, honest!

You are correct about the whole gaining weight issue. I didn't realize how bad it had got until I looked back on some old highschool pics! I just think about how I thought I was fat then, and how I'd do anything to be that size now!!

As for my plan... well I really don't have anything specific. I'm definatly cutting out pop and fast food again. I made a big step today and emptied my fridge of all the junk I don't need. It's too temping having it there. I went grocery shopping and got a ton of healthy food. I also made myself a promise to cook at home a ton more and not to go and eat out nearly as much!

I need help with the whole excersising thing. I don't like to do it. I have trouble staying motivated to do it, esp. alone. My job keeps me moderatly active, although I do only work part time. I need to get more active! That is a must! My finace's job is very physicaly demanding so he's often warn out when he gets home, so I can't really force him to go run on the treadmill with me, but we have both agreed to try to do more activity, even if it's just walking around the park or something.

Thanks for your congrats on the wedding, I'm so excited and hoping that it will be the motivation I need to make some positive changes!!

Again, thank you sooo much, I really appricate your kindness and encourgement!!

LCZ:
Oooomigosh. I look back at my high school pictures, where I thought I was a cow... where I used to CRY because of how GROSS I thought I was... and now I'm like, "Dear lord, I was 137 lbs... :| "

Now I would LOVE to be the "cow" that I thought I was back then, lol. And I intend to get there.

It definitely sounds like you're on the right track in terms of eating! Cleaning out the fridge can be a big step. It's also great that your fiance seems motivated to lose a bit of weight as well. It'll make things easier for you if he's not snacking away on junk food! The thing I always have to remember is that just because my boyfriend's metabolism can handle chomping down half a can of Pringles... doesn't mean mine can. >.< (Ohhh, how I wish.)

In terms of exercising... yeahhhh, that can be the tough part, hehe. Do you have a treadmill at home, then? Something in the way you said it made it sound like you did to me, lol.
What I find INCREDIBLY helpful, though I don't know if this would help you or not... is to find a weekly television show that I'm obsessed with. Every week, I make sure that I make it to the gym 10 minutes earlier than the show starts, and change the channel on one of the TVs. It DOES suck a bit reading the subtitles off the TV, but I'm also so engrossed in my show that I don't even notice the time flying by, and suddenly I've been on the elliptical for an HOUR. If I don't go to the gym, I don't let myself watch the show. Reward for going! Works even better if you have a treadmill at home!

I've been so incredibly busy lately.. and so incapable of dragging my butt out of bed early early in the am that I haven't been getting to the gym NEARLY as often as I should, so I'm focusing at the moment on healthy eating, along with not taking the bus for the 20 minute walk to campus. I don't necessarily feel like I'm exercising THAT much, but my pedometer (aka., my cell phone) says I've about doubled the number of steps I take in a day, which sounds pretty good to me! And that's not even counting the steps I take when my cell phone's not in my pocket counting them, hehe.

And hey, your wedding is the PERFECT encouragement to make these positive changes, and make them stick!

LCZ: I actually really like reading other people's background stories. It's easier to support people when you know their background. So, I'm glad you typed a bit about yourself .

I'm sure you'll find a lot of support and interesting stuff to read here. If you are looking for support more related to your health issues, maybe you can check out the "dieting with obstacles" board?

Exercising is hard... I never really did any sports in my life. My parents always pushed me to and I think that was why I didn't want to do it. Plus I was very bad at PE. So it never really became a habit for me. But now I exercise regularly (at least 30 minutes a day) and I have to say that I feel much better for it. Walking in itself has become a pleasure because my body feels so supple and easy to move. I'm sure you'll feel much better for it too! My little trick is to change into my exercise clothes as soon as I come home. I won't go running immediately, but after a while I will feel stupid because I have changed for nothing, and I will go running. When I go swimming I preferably go immediately after work, because otherwise I might not go at all. You can do it! I'm sure. And you will be even more proud of your wedding when you know that you have done so much for it.

Wow, thank you all for the great ideas! I think those little tricks might really be able to help me get on the treadmill (lol, yea I have one at home).

I truely already feel a diffrence in this diet than my other attempts. Partly because of the wedding, and partly because of finding this forum! It's so great to talk to supportive, friendly people that know and understand what you're going threw! I can't thank you all enough for taking time to welcome me!

One quesion, I figured I'd check out that thread Elwing told me about, is there any other particular threads that could help me stay on track that you all reccommend?

Thanks

lcz1930 - A year is plenty of time, props to you for making the decision now. I am a wedding photographer and so many ofmy brides just decide to get in shape about 2 months before, setting crazy unrealistic goals and starving themselves. Don't make it a diet, make it a lifestyle. Today is the first day of the new you, the rest of your life you.

welcome. im new here too, but Ive already found it to be a very supportive and motivating site. so far, i've lost 60lbs. I think everyone has their own way of going about it, but what it comes down to is just eating healthy, watching calories and being active. Dont beat yourself up if you fall off track as long as you get back on the train. I am not doing any "diet" or pills. I just eat lots of vegies, fruit, whole grains, turkey, chicken, fish and drink lots and lots of water. I give myself once a week to cheat (which keeps me on track) and try to eliminate red meat, sweets, fried foods and salty crap from my diet. I just find it easier to do it this way, but you really have to just do what you feel most comfortable with. good luck

WELCOME lady! You'll find tons of support here. And a huuuuuge CONGRATS on getting married!!! How exciting!!

Hmm...let's see if I have any tips at all for ya. I personally find that counting calories works well for me and staying within my "calories allowed". Plus I cheat every now and then...hey, it's life, and we shouldn't be DEPRIVING ourselves of our favorite treats every once in a while!

As for exercise? I'm probably one of the laziest and least-motivated people you will ever know! Haha...but I went out and bought fun workout DVDs (I have a Salsa-dancing DVD, Pilates, Yoga, Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred..which is AMAZING and it's only 20 minutes!) So I try to switch things up. Also, the weather around here has been nicer lately, so I try and take advantage of any outdoor activities that I can! Running/walking, biking, rollerblading... Plus, it helps that I live across the street from a park...

As for your treadmill? Maybe you can set it up in front of your favorite shows on TV and walk/run while watching it...especially with subtitles on! Time always seems to go by faster when you're trying to read the lines.

Best of luck to you, and no matter what, you WILL look absolutely stunning on your wedding day!

Hello newbies! Today is day 17 for me on this site. I'm so addicted to it! I haven't really lost much weight yet, but I'm working on it. I always went between 162-165ish but at least I'm on the LOW end of that at 161 right now. Check out the C25K program (Couch to 5K program). I'm addicted to that too and I HATE working out normally. It's nice because it's not a long term goal. It's a daily goal. Like I know that tomorrow I have to do week 4 day 2 and that is all I am worried about. If I fail, then I do it again, but I haven't failed yet, so I'm pretty excited!

WELCOME and I hope you like it here as much as I have!

Nice to meet you And congrats on the wedding comming up! A year is plently of time to loose the weight you need to, just make sure you eat a balanced diet but make sure you don't cut out all crappy foods like choc etc. you still need to treat yourself. Try to get plenty of exercise and it will fall off! good luck
