Default When to buy maternity clothes?

So I am about 11 weeks and there is a huge sale at Kohl's on maternity clothes. I tried some stuff on and it was REALLY comfortable. Should I be buying clothes now? Should I wait? If I buy the medium maternity pants now, might they be too small in a couple of months????

I'm not pregnant now...when I was about as far as long as you were is when I started buying clothes. They say to buy what size you are in normal clothes. It was right till I was in about my 8th month, but thats also because I gained about 65lbs.

If you like them that much why not buy the medium and a large for when you are near the end of your pregnancy?

With both of my pregnancies I bought my normal clothing size in maternity bottoms and they fit comfortably the whole time. Shirts I did have to go up a size in from my normal size and I had to buy bras twice during both pregnancies.

I never bought any maternity dresses, so I am not sure whether my normal size would have fit or whether I would have needed one size up due to my chest getting bigger.

If your regular clothes are uncomfortable now then I would buy the maternity pants that are comfortable now, but have a panel or waistband that has plenty of give for as you expand.

I never gained anywhere but my tummy and chest, so I did not have to worry about my thighs or backsides needing more room.

Modkittn - I buy a lot of stretchy cotton shirts....they fit the entire time. In pants and skirts, I buy the under the belly kind and towards the end, I might need to use a bella band to help keep them up.

Right now, invest in some long sleeve t-shirts in good colors and nice soft cotton and a bella band - you will be able to wear the shirts throughout your pregnancy and the bella band will make your pants that are a little too tight feel a heck of a lot better.

I'm 28 weeks and I still can wear a few of my pre-pregnancy pants with a bella band.

I have a few button down maternity shirts, but honestly, with the right accessories a cotton t-shirt and a cute skirt can be really really cute and not at all preggo frumpy. They are also way more comfortable and less restricting.

I found in my last pregnancy, during the last two weeks I couldn't wear ANYTHING that was at all binding or scratchy. I would actually take off my pants a lot of the time in the car because they were just too unbearable.

Old Navy has a really cute dark denim maternity pencil skirt. It sits below the belly and has an expandable waistline. It hits right below the kneecap (I'm 5'8). It can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair with it. I think I paid about $30 for it when I was about 12 weeks preg. and it is still fitting great and REALLY comfortable and unrestrictive.

Also, buy what is on sale - chances are unless you gain a ton of weight, you'll maintain the same size throughout pregnancy. If you try something on and it fits perfectly, try going up a size to give you room to grow.

Yay! Kohls is having a sale! When is it?? I need some maternity pants.

I'm not pregnant, nor have I ever been, but I've heard my sister and friends complain about the expense of maternity clothing. Maybe you should check craigslist to see if someone your size is getting rid of maternity clothes? Are there any maternity consignment shops where you live? Ross and Burlington Coat Factory have maternity sections as well. Do you have friends who've been pregnant recently? Maybe you could borrow things from them?

Everyone I know loves the bella band.

I have a bella band, but it doesn't really help.. my pants still feel too tight. BTW, this is coming from a woman who never wears jeans because she thinks they are too restrictive.

I ended up buying some of the maternity clothes. 4-5 shirts, 3 pants (2 I had bought a week ago), and 1 sweater. What I will undoubtedly need is a maternity jacket. Now THAT is going to be expensive!

I think the real problem is that I was in 8's and 10's. Well now I am in 10's and 12's. I only have like, 1 thing that is a size 12 and I hate how it fits. The 10's are getting really tight around my tummy now. I saved a LOT of clothes from when I lost weight, but I also got rid of a ton because they were faded or I would just never wear them again (some of this stuff was more than a few years old!). So I was kind of stuck for clothing anyway I guess.

Oh and Kohls ALWAYS has sales 2 of the shirts I got were $2.80 each because they were "summer" shirts. Really, they were just short sleeved!

Mod- I just bought a ton of short sleeved shirts for really cheap...if it gets cold, I just throw a sweater over the top. Check Target's maternity section, I just bought a bunch of off season stuff a week or so ago for 50-75% off.

Also, as far as jackets go...I'm not sure what your budget is, but Old Navy maternity and Motherhood maternity both have pretty stylish options that are very budget friendly.

Like Zenor mentioned, consignment shops are your best friends. We don't have any that are maternity only, but a TON of the children's consignment shops also carry maternity and I've found really cute stuff for really inexpensive. Also, Ebay and Craigslist are good places to find cute things - especially if you live in a large town.

Also, if you're busty, moving into the women's section (plus size) might be an option. I'm not busty enough to fill out the top half, so most things look silly, but the 16/18W fits my belly VERY nicely.

On the jeans issue...I feel the same way. I love jeans when I'm not pg but I can't tolerate them when I am. I would much rather wear skirts, and I've opted to buy 4 maternity skirts instead of a bunch of maternity pants. Tights are big this fall, especially in jewel tones. It will be nice to keep my legs warm while being able to wear unrestrictive skirts.

I also have worn a lot of maternity stuff when I wasn't pregnant just because it was comfortable. Some of the obvious maternity shirts and pants look silly, but the regular cotton maternity shirts and some of the underbelly (non elastic waistband) look completely normal even when you aren't pg.

I was in full blown maternity clothes by 10 weeks with every baby. But then again, I average out 9+ preemies and 10+ full terms.

I always wore my normal size in maternity clothes from 3-6 months pregnant, but I always had to buy a few more things for the third trimester in a size larger than that.

It's hard to say if your tops/pants will fit through your entire prengancy...because some of us have 5 pound babies, and others have 10 pound babies...and most are somewhere inbetween.

It's going to depend on the size of the baby.

I say buy whatever is going to be the most comfortable to you.

Be careful buying lots of long sleeves or sweater type stuff. The further along I get the warmer my body temp seems to be. I feel like I am carrying around a built in little heater in my belly and can't seem to cool off. My poor kids and husband are walking around in jeans and sweat shirts and I am still wearing shorts and tank tops.

I love shopping...I was checking out Motherhood Maternity the other day and they are also having some great sales on stuff going "out of season".

I've found a lot of stuff at Motherhood Maternity. As another poster said, you'll start to feel warmer the farther along you get so keep that in mind. I'm normally a cold-natured person but lately, everyone in the office is layering and wearing long sleeves and I'm still in sleeveless tops and comfortable.

A good option might be to buy the sleeveless items on sale, then invest in a cute cardigan or sweater that can be layered over them for cooler weather. I also love the Secret Belly pants at Motherhood and still use a Bella Band for a couple of my pre-PG pants so that I have plenty to get through a work week without having to wear a pair more than once a week.

Also, remember you're going to be wearing these clothes for several months so get things you love or feel really cute in. It does make a difference. My DH teases me that I dress better PG than I did before! I've spent about $350, have all the pants and tops I need for the next 3 months and managed to get the majority on sale so that I have plenty of options.
