Default Question for you Gal Chickies-Female stuff

I know this is probably not the place but to make a long story short I have fibroid tumors (checked and not cancerous) and because of them and the symptoms I have consented to have a vaginal hysterectomy in a few weeks.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the surgery and if so what is the realistic time frame to heal? At work all I do is work at a computer, can I return to work before the dr. suggests of two weeks? I have access to a sofa I can lie down on if need be. The thought of staying home for two weeks is giving me thoughts of binges, alcohol, etc. The sugery is stressing me out and the thought of being confined is even worse.

Thank you in advance

I don't know how a vaginal hysterectomy works, but I imagine the reasoning for you to stay put and heal is so they don't have to go in and fix something should you damage anything while working. I would say really talk to your doctor. Tell him your concerns and explain your work situation. See what his reasons are for you to stay at home for two weeks and see what harm can be done by pushing it. I would say that two weeks would be better to deal with than months of bed rest or hospitalization if you tear something or damage something. Good luck with the operation.

I agree with Ducky. The doctors suggest a timeframe for you to heal for a reason. I'd just stick with what they say, it's not worth taking the chance in my opinion.

I had a hysterectomy but it wasn't vaginal, it was abdominal, so I can't tell you exactly how you'll feel, but I was incredibly tired after mine and very sore. It's important that you follow your doctor's instructions and not go back to work too soon. You can go for short, easy walks if you don't want to feel cooped up and confined. You don't want to put yourself at risk for complications by overdoing it.
