Hello! On Saturday, I went over my daily points and used up ALL my 35 flex points for the week on day 2 of my week (it was my bday!!). I went over my 35 flex points by 21 points. So now I am wondering if I should cut back on my daily point max for the week to make up for how much I went over, or should I just move forward as if that day never happened and just eat up all my daily points as usual?
And, because I went over my flex points for the week, does that mean I will gain weight this week?
Hello Margieel - NO! Do not cut back on your daily points even though you had a bad day yesterday (Happy B-day by the way!!!). Just go on with whatever your daily points are. IF you don't get enough points, you will screw up your metabolism and have a really bad week next week. Today is a new day...just no more flex points this week!
Just because you went over your flex points, does not mean that you will not loose this week...just depends on the rest of your week. If this was your only slip-up, I bet you'll still loose! Good luck!
It's not recommended to eat below your daily points level on a regular basis. However, I do believe there is something perfectly natural in having a couple low-point days to balance out a couple of high-point days. I know I'd usually do that even if I weren't counting points, you know? Listen to your body for the next few days, and if you honestly don't feel like eating all your dailies, don't stress too much - just don't make it a habit and try not to go under more than a couple days in a row.
As for gaining - it's not for certain that you will gain. It is a possibility. Unfortunately there is no direct correlation between points consumed and weight on the scale. You could not eat a single FP one week and gain... Then go over your FPs the next and lose. There are too many processes going on in the body to say with certainty until you actually step on that scale. So don't think too much about the scale and just focus on making good, healthy food choices and just have faith that the scale will follow suit!
As the others said, keep going with at least your minimum daily points and you might want to add some exercise. Exercise means activity points and that's good news!
sticking with your Daily Target Points, and then trying to earn more activity Points this week to make up for the extras you had?
Instead of eating your Activity Points that you earn, like you normally would, just stick to your Points Target...and use the Activity Points to make up for the extra Flex you ate.
I'm a WW Leader in NYC -- and read with interest all the comments based on your question.
The right advice is from many of them: 1. Do not cut back on your POINTS target for the rest of the week -- eat, each day, your calculated points.
2. DO NOT subtract 21 POINTS from next week's Weekly Points Allowance.
As a leader, (and a successful loser of over 60 pounds) I can tell you that they "misnamed" the WPAs. They should be called the Weekly Pleasure Allowance. They are given to you specifically to use for overages when they happen at a party; or to use for NON nutritive foods -- like desserts, alcohol, and such. I call them the Weekly PLEASURE Allowance. If you focus your Daily Target on the Good Health Guidelines, you have plenty of room to "play" during the week - with the 35 POINTS.
Enjoy them. Eat your target the rest of the week; don't cut back on the 35 next week (consider them your weekly bonus, and look at your target as your Paycheck.)
NO do not cut back on your daily points! If anything make sure you are doing your regular exercise to help offset the overage....don't do anything extreme and I wouldn't advise upping it because it would probably cause water retention (I don't know how long you've been on WW but I know at first I was really caught up on that number on the scale).
Just keep in mind it takes about 3500 calories above what it takes you to maintain to gain a true pound of fat. Ride it out and stick on plan...soon you won't even remember your slip!
I would not go below my daily points....instead I would probably conciously exercise to make up for some of those points...or forget about that day all together and plan to be on points each day for the rest of the week! Good luck!
