Anyone here on The Lunch Box Diet??

  • I searched the "net" for a message box discussing this diet. Hope I can find someone on this board that has tried it or is on the diet now. I'm finding it quite easy and have been losing a pound a day.

    My goal is to lose 12-15# by the end of October. I am also walking 30 min. a day.

    Would like a "buddy" so we can support each other.

    I've never tried this method, but reading about it, the concept seems pretty simple. You fill a lunchbox with nutrient rich foods, and snack on the foods a little bit all day between breakfast & dinner. Instead of lunch you pretty much graze on this food all day.

    Eating small 'meals' frequently works for many people so... I don't see anything particularly harmful about it.
  • Thanks for your reply, Faerie. There doesn't seem to be anyone here trying this "eating plan". I would encourage anyone who is looking for a nutritous way to lose weight easily and quickly to to check this out. It's working for me!

  • Losing a lb per day is a little drastic.
    I know it's exciting at first, but don't be let down if that slows down or comes back on quickly.

  • lunchbox diet is basically bento diet (japanese). You pack your own lunch or dinner and bring it to work or school. One guideline is to make your box filled with as many colours as possible so as to have all nutrients.

    Plus you save time, money, calories.. I bring my pwn lunch too.,
  • Here are a few fun leads for fellow bento enthusiasts. Our 5 yr old even prefers homemade bentos to bring vs. school lunch! He gets to help with the prepping and picking out items. It's fun, healthy and well portioned as long as you pick the right stuff

    You can find massive groups on flickr with bento porn (non-offensive photos of food, just a play on words)

    This morning, little man took his lock n' lite bento container stuffed with hapa rice (1/2 white - 1/2 brown rice a bit more nutritious that way), korean bbq chicken breasts bites (literally took only 5-6 minutes to cook his portion size), sliced cucumbers with Chamoy dressing in little pokemon heads (sauce holders) and some tamagoyaki (layered, sweet omelete pieces).

    I had to fend him off from making lunch his breakfast!

    I'm still swimming in the newbie pool loving all of this. Luckily I live in L.A. and have access to most items that I want for aesthetic reasons. It fits perfectly with the Body for Life program as well. I keep yappin' about it, now I just need to sit and plan my own meals accordingly. Why is it always easier for the youngin'?

  • Wow, I can't believe that I found bentos on here!

    I was turned onto packing bentos for breakfast (I get up too early to eat at home so I have to lug it to work) and lunch a couple of months ago as a form of portion control.

    I think that it's a great idea because it helps you learn proper portion control. You'd be surprised how tiny the Japanese bento boxes are when you order them! I remember thinking that there was no way that I would be full after eating only what I had packed in there. Boy was I wrong. They are the perfect size - you just have to watch the mililiters to make sure you don't order a child-sized bento.

    A word of warning though....while this does help portion control you still have to be careful of what you put in there. Fill the whole thing with mac 'n cheese and you have a problem. But a bit of mac 'n cheese, a salad and some fruit and you have a relatively healthy and complete meal. Just like any other diet, but I do think that the boxes make it more fun and it's really hard to cram too much in there.

    There is a ton of information available on the web, but my personal favorite sites are:
    1) Lunch in a Box (has a great deal of tips on how to quickly assemble bentos)

    2) Just Bento (has pre-fab bento meal plans along with the corresponding recipes and their nutritional information for those of us who are planning challenged) [NOTE: The sister site Just Hungry has awesome recipes as well]

    3) Live Journal Bento Lunches (mostly gorgeous pictures of people's bento boxes for inspiration and the occasional recipe)

    Bentoing is addictive though and may lead to many many many shopping trips in search of bento gear!

    For someone looking for something different, not too restrictive, and fun it would be ideal.

  • Grazing throughout the day is supposed to be better than eating large meals. As long as you stick with nutritious food, it should be a good plan!
