Talking hi everyone!

My name's Ashley and I'm 19 years old. I'm in my second year at a local community college studying Business Management, Marketing and Administration. I've recently adopted a baby fennec fox. He is my world.. and he's quite adorable. There's a link to his picture below.

I've been big my whole life but just within the past year I have gained 40 pounds and probably like all of you.. I'm fed up. I'm looking around here to get familiarized with everything but I have a question:

What are some healthy foods that I should get used to eating and some not so good foods that I should start getting used to not having.

Thanks everyone!
Ashley

Hi Ashley!

Keep poking around and you will find lots of support around here. You asked a loaded question up there but as a start try to avoid soda (water is a great substitute) and be sure to eat lots of veggies.
Your little fox is adorable. Give him a big hug from me! Good luck!

Oh my. Depends on your taste. To start:
YES: Whole grains, nuts, eggs, fruit, veggies, chicken, fish, turkey, WATER.
NO: Soda (diet is ok on occassion), fast food, white flour, white sugar, anything white, high fructose corn syrup... well, most things not listed above.

What do you normally eat?

Hey Ashley!

As for your question, I don't really think of anything as "off limits" - if I want fries, I have a few fries. I take a "calorie counting" approach to my weight, with an emphasis on healthy whole foods.

HOWEVER - for health reasons, I do tend to pick and choose most of my calories from vegetables, whole grains (brown rice, whole wheat couscous, whole wheat pastas, etc), lean proteins (my favorites are chicken breast, turkey breast, pork tenderloin, extra lean ground beef, eggs, beans, and greek yogurt), fruits, and a limited amount of healthy fats. No one could argue that a diet with those components is an unhealthy one. BUT - I reserve a few hundred calories a day for things that may NOT fit into that healthy framework, and that works for me.

You may want to check out the 20-somethings (you're close enough) or the 100 lb club, a group for those who are losing or have lost 100 lbs or more. Wherever you settle, stick around. Can't wait to get to know you better!

Oh my goodness you're such an inspiration!! Thank you so much for your advice. I will definitely take all of that into consideration while making my weight loss plan because obviously it worked for you! I think I'll take a look around the 100 lb. and 20-something boards. Thank you so much, really!
