Default vitamins to support weight loss?

Hi,

I realize that this has probably already been covered but I'm new here and I need some help/advice on vitamins. If I am eating right with all my fruits & veggies, do I need vitamins? What do you take? Does it help with weight loss? I am not really good at remembering to take pills so I have never taken them consistently so I don't know whether it helps or not.

Thanks!

The reason you take vitamins isn't for weight loss but just to help round out your diet. Even if you eat lots of fruits and veggies, your body still may be lacking some nutrients it needs to function properly.

It is completely an individual choice though, some people take them, some people don't. I do because even though I eat a whole foods diet, who knows what I may miss.

I do not take vits. Everyone told me I needed to since I did not eat meat so I did. Well I was only take a one a day and I had an overdose of vit and it did damage to my kidneys and liver. If you think you might be lacking in something then ask for a blood test and see if you are. You take a vit and your pee changes colors then you are peeing out the pill any how and your body did not need it. I would suggest talking to your doc and explain your concerns first...

FYI, if your pee changes color (to a bright yellow), that is vitamin B. Other vitamins won't change your pee color.

Default vitamins

I take a women's multi everyday made by Garden of life. I noticed a difference in taking this over other multis-like feeling more balanced throughout the day. Even if I ate as healthy as possible, I don't think I would fully get all the nutrients from my food, so that's which I take it-to round out my nutrition.

I take one every once in awhile. On again off again.

I figure that my diet is fairly well rounded so most of what I need is coming from food... then I don't need to take one daily.

But, as Nelie said, it's an "if you want" issue.

I take a multivitamin every morning. Even though I eat well I know that I'm not getting enough or all the vitamins that my body needs.

I use the Rainbow Light brand.

I take a multi vitamin daily- one a day weight smart.
Also take flaxseed pill, vitamin b complex, and an asprin every couple days (I go easy on this one).
I wouldn't say what I do is "right" or recommend it, but it works for me. I dont eat enough fish or veggies (dont like most, but I eat more than enough fruit).

I take Trader Joe's Women's High Potency vitamins, along with their Omega 3's. I tend to feel better when I take it, and I just like making sure I've got everything I need, nutrient-wise. But it's a personal choice definitely.

Yup. I remember staying with a relative one time and she had a fist full of pills. I asked her why she takes so many and why she just didn't take a multi-vitamin. She didn't have an answer and just nervously laughed. I thought it was weird.
Just wanted to share that story. Not even shure why.

Thanks everybody!

Sounds like a multi-vitamin might work best and I like the idea of one for women so there is enough iron. Somebody suggested Prenatal vitamins to me but they seem overkill.

I take Rainbow Light Prenatal, but we're trying to conceive. Rainbow Light is a great brand. It's very easy on the stomach. If you are looking for a vitamin with iron in it, make sure the iron is of the easily absorbed kind. An amino chelate is best. Also, make sure the vitamin has vitamin D and selenium, since these are some of the most common deficiencies in the US. The RDA for Vitamin D just went up. Calcium is important too.

Along with my Rainbow multi I take 3 fish oil capsules and 1 vitamin D capsule. I wear sunscreen everyday, so I make sure I get my vitamin D (your body needs sun exposure to make D.)
