Good things come to those who weight. (a.k.a My love for summer fruit.)
Okay, so the pun in the title of this thread has nothing to do with my post's content, so forgive me that. I was inspired as I started typing it and went with the flow.
Anyway ... I just wanted to express my happiness about MANGOES FINALLY BEING IN SEASON! WOOHOO. It's spring in Australia and my local supermarkets have all just gotten fresh shipments of Kensington Pride mangoes.
I've been waiting for this all year (not to the point where I was sitting in a dark corner of my room, rocking back and forth, refusing to come out or bathe, until lured out with freshly sliced mango.) But you know what I mean...
Oh, what a juicy summer delight.
Personally, my favourite kind of mango species is the "R2E2" variety. They aren't in season yet. I have no idea where they got their name, all I know is they are a tasty friggin fruit. Straight out of the fridge, they make a super refreshing treat.
So - speaking of loving fruits, what are some of the favourites of yours? How do you ladies like preparing fruits? Favourite recipes, kinds of fruit/memories surrounding the consumption of...
im not a big fruit person (ok im not even a small fruit person), but i am super excited too because i am in NZ and its spring, which is nearly summer, which means STRAWBERRIES
Nectarines. I loooovvvve nectarines and would gladly blow my whle budget on them.
Unfortunately we're moving out of summer into autumn and winter here in the northern hemi, and so I'll be nectarine-less for a while!
OTOH, autumn is my favorite season and I am looking forward to being able to do more winter squashes, soups, beans, stews, etc. as the temperature drops. So it's a trade off, I guess!
Iconised ghost - when I started to lose weight, I was eating a lot of strawberries. Low calorie and tasty, I fell in love with them and have been a big fan ever since. Never really cared for them before then. Nice choice!
PhotoChick - Nectarines are the bomb! Like with almost any other fruit, I personally like them best straight from the fridge.
Goog point about the seasonal trade - off. I think you've made a great point -there are some delicious fruits that are only available in the summer, but then again winter brings about it's own wonderful produce. Winter soup sounds yummy!
DisgruntledOne - Juiced, sliced, cold, hot, (well, ok not hot...) - I love watermelon. Mmmmmm.
Brings me to another great fruit - Pineapple. Haven't eaten it in ages due to the high sugar/calorie content, but boy pineapples rock.
mazza- i think i could live off them nicely hopefully this year i will get my hands on some plants and grow my own...yummy and cheap. I like pineapple too, but raw it burns my tongue And when i cook it i always want to make pineapple upside down cake, which isnt quite as healthy
Ellie - you haven't mentioned any fruits that I don't like. I'm also an addict! I love fruit and could live off the stuff... But alas, I do need protein and good fats to balance things out.
Hey, SandiCo - forgive my ignorance, but is a Colorado peach any different to a regular one? I'm imagining an exotic, different species to the normal ones. But maybe they're just normal and I'm overly preoccupied with fruity thoughts - no pun intended...
I love that most fruits are super versatile and can be used in desserts, smoothies, salads - even savoury things.

They aren't different, but they are BETTER they are bigger, juicier, and sweeter. There are just no words
SandiCO- We actually drove through Pallisade on our way home from our wedding a few weeks ago when they first arrived. I brought back around 8 pounds to hand out to various friends and family for cobblers and pies
ETA: My favorite fruit (and I love them all) has to be watermelon. I lost count of how many I ate this summer. I'm definitely sad to see them go

I love to hear about when people share the fruity goodness.
Winter brings some good ones, too - like mandarins. I'm not a fanatic, but I do appreciate them when they arrive. I associate them with cold weather, though - which sucks a little.
