Default Sugar sensitivity?

I'm not sure where to post this, but I wanted to know what I am suffering from. When I eat refined carbs (crumpets, rice crispies etc) I get very tired, have a funny taste in my mouth an sometimes my vision blurs.

Today I've had eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes for breakfast but 10 mins after my mid morning snack of crumpet and laughing cow light, I felt funny and got the urge to have another. So I did. Now I feel tired and there is a weird taste in my mouth.

Any ideas? I don't know much about diabetes, or whether this is just a carb overload....I suppose I should get checked out, but I wanted to know what you lovely ladies had to say...

Thanks

Lou

Hello! Those symptoms sound a bit unusual. One thing you could try would be to eat something other than your usual crumpet, such as perhaps a bagel, some toasted bread, or an English muffin, and see if the same thing happens. From what you've said, it sounds as though it does.

I'd also see the doctor. You may need to have your blood tested to check your blood glucose level. The diabetes diagnosis depends on your fasting blood glucose level. Also, it may be that you have a "food allergy" to some sort of carbohydrate component, like wheat gluten. This can be debilitating as well. You can google for basic information, but do see your doc.

Thanks Jay.

It does happen with bagels, bread as well. I may do a little google as I'd never thought of a gluten intolerance. And book the Drs for Tuesday.

It is weird. I can taste when I've had too much. I have resisted the urge to eat any more as I'd just end up asleep.

Food allergies and intolerances can result in all sorts of odd side effects right from craving foods to fatigue, irritability, and headaches. We've got some food sensitivities in our family and I've had the most success dealing with our naturopathic doctor rather than our regular MD. I did an elimination diet a couple of years ago where I took out the possible problem foods for 4 weeks then re-introduced them one at a time. I was quite surprised at how obvious my reactions were once my body was used to being without them.

I know when I have been eating alot of sugar and carbs it makes me feel sick and tired. When I cut out those things I seem to feel much better.
