Default Agoraphobia

Okay, so if you've been reading my posts regarding my daughter and wanting to be homeschooled to the point that she has panic attacks and bawls herself to sleep on Sunday nights because she doesn't want to go to school the next day...I have an update.

After a summer of therapist visits, its been determined my daughter has agoraphobia. Not to the point that she doesn't like to go outside, but that she doesn't like to go anywhere without my husband or I. My own parents won't do! My husband and I went to the casino a month ago for a one nighter and she and my son were to stay at my parents house overnight and she bawled and bawled at going to gramma's house. It's just painful to watch.

So, the psychiatrist put her on the lowest dose of fluvoxamine to see if this helps. School starts a week from tomorrow, so I hope the meds kick in soon. I'm not really happy about her being on medication, but I want her to be comfortable, too.

Any thoughts? She's to try the meds for 15 days and then we see the psychiatrist again for a follow up. I've been told the meds won't actually kick in full-force by then, but we'll see.

Oh, and this agoraphobia is also laced with bereavement after the death of her father a year and a half ago. Just thought I'd add that.

I'm no expert in these matters but given your last comment, it is possible she doesn't want to let you out of her sight because she's afraid that she will lose you too? Poor little girl - that's some serious troubles for such a little one.

I know...my poor lil kitten. She hadn't seen her father since 2000, but I do believe that his death put this agoraphobia in place. I'm hoping the medication will take some of the stress away for her and make school a little easier on her.

That's a hard situation to deal with. I hope for her and your sake that the meds work.
