I am 46, been on a lot of diets like most of you and have fought the battle of the bulge since I was young.
I would have to say that my biggest battles are not being able to feel hungry as a result of being literally a starving student - sure I lost the weight but I hated feeling hungry all the time and portion control. I eat the proper foods, just too much of them. I love whole wheat breads with lots of nuts and seeds, lettuce, tomatoes, not so much the mayo or the butter/margarine. Its a problem I have to deal with NOW as I can not sit up straight without my chest protruding and I not talking about the girls here. I constantly feel sick to my stomach and yet when I eat I feel worse. I have spoken with my DR. and he prescribed a prescription anti-reflux medication which made the problem worse but I know from experience that if I lose the weight I will lose the feeling.
I used to be very athletic swim, walk for hours at a time comfortably, jog a bit do field events, lift weights had a heart rate of 53 beats per minute when I was swimming semi-competitively and would like to get back to a healthier heart rate than what I have now.
I welcome any and all positive support from near and far and will be posting regularly under the Canuck group.
Hello - I'm also in Hamilton! And ready to lose the pounds! I walk 4-5 days a week at the McQuestion Park track on Upper Wentworth... and joined weight watchers. Lets show everyone what us Steel City girls are made of!
I left a note in the Canadians thread, but I just thought I'd say hello here as well. I'm in Burlington but will be going back to school (after many many years) to Mohawk College in a few weeks.
SusanB - and it would be a lot closer for me this time!
Just so you know, we had a very small Southwestern Ontario meet-up in Stratford Ontario a little while back. Susan and I, along with another member from Kitchener met, and had a very nice time.
So great to meet so many from Hamilton,Ontario.... we should absolutely meet with the other gals from southern Ontario.
Steel City chicks rule the roost !!! :-)
No offense meant to our American friends, you can never have too many friends and supporters, just that it is so cool that within a board of so many there are 6 within 30 minutes driving time of me, this is amazing.

For those of us in Hamilton, I recommend the rail trail. I was driving around the other night with a friend, and we were on Nebo road out in the country and stumbled upon this part of the rail trail. It's very secluded (which I love). And it's full of nature's beauty!. We actually jogged for a bit! I'm too uncomfortable to jog in front of people, so this part of the rail trail is perfect for me!. If you go up Nebo Road from Rymal road, then when you get to Twenty Road, turn right, and it's right there, you can't miss it.
