Default fitday calorie frustration

sorry if this has been brought up before, but i just joined fitday and fi ind the calorie counts to be inconsistent while the food listings are hard to follow.

is it just me?

i used the calorie count link sticky in this forum and got 52 calories for a cup of carrots, but on fitday it was 470 calories!

i guess i just need to figure things out, but what calorie counts should i trust??

I tried Fitday and couldn't stand it. Most of the foods I tried to input weren't in the database, and it was hard to find my way around. I had more luck with Sparkpeople.com....

I've found fitday to be very very accurate - I compare to a couple of different sites if it's a new food. You're going to have to input any custom foods into any site.

Yabbut ... I hardly think a cup of carrots should qualify as a "custom" food.

I tried FitDay and it bout drove me insane. It doesn't have a centralized database, so any food that you eat, you have to enter first. Very annoying.

I much prefer DailyPlate - since the database is centralized and much more flexible.

great! thanks for the info re sparkpeople and dailyplate....

maybe i wasn't choosing the correct option for the carrots, but i mean how hard should it be to find the calorie count for a cup of carrots???? there were too many weird options and it was set up poorly. i think i just need something a little more straightforward.

i've heard many good things about fitday too so i thougth it was my brain deficiency leading me astray.... glad i'm not the only one.....!

Dunno, I couldn't have found it more easily. Searched on carrots, first item in the list. But you have to find what works for you.

I've just started with fitday. Always used DietPower before, which is to pay for, didn't find much excitement in fitday but I like the new set up and it seems to have a huge database of foods. I like the way it presents the info as a nutrition label.
I haven't found a way of creating a recipe on it, so I still do that in DP and then enter it as a custom food.
I hadn't heard of the other two though, worth a look! If I type, I don't eat!

i found them after sifting through a bunch of carrot "options".....i dunno, but i renewed my sparkpeople profile and i find the calorie counter/meal planner to be easier for me...

I'v found a handy trick in Fitday for counting veggies is to search on "carrot, raw"....then I don't have to look for it in all the choices of carrots with something else. I almost always cook my veggies without added oil so the calorie count is comparable.
