Default more calories during my period

Should I eat more calories during my period ? I feel like I'm more hungry than usual and feel more weak than usual.

Maybe you could increase your fiber and protein intake. A good fiber rich cereal can take care of some carb/sugarish cravings that I get during my TOM. I try not to let myself slip and have something carb-rich or with refined sugar because then I end up craving it for days.

Make sure you take a multi-vitamin too! =]

yeah I heard our metabolisms go up some during TOM but I don't think it's enough to need an extra meal or anything. Probably just take in more iron and maybe an extra snack oughta do ya

Our bodies DO use more calories during our period. I always get extremely hungry a couple of days before, and the first couple days of it. I don't eat a WHOLE lot more...but I will add in an extra 100 calories or so per day. I also make sure that I eat small meals, more often, through the day as well to tide me over...and more protein, especially iron rich sources of beef.

(Women tend to lose iron during menstruation.)

That was a good question... I was wondering that myself.

I always have the tendency of craving meat and chocolates (not together).

Hamburgers and chocolate shakes, that sort of thing. Or a steak.

I'm guessing it's the iron? I think I read on one of the other threads that taking iron and magnesium supplements can help during TOM?

It's the iron. I usually always crave chocolate and red meat as well.

You can take iron suppliments if you need to. Check with your doctor first, though.
