Default Newbie? Hope this is descriptive enough.

Hi,

I'm not that good at introductions, so I apologise in advance.

I'm Kirsty, I'm 16, and I think I have a compulsive eating disorder.
From the age of 14, I used to eat, a lot. Even when not hungry. I'd snack at night, and other random times.
I've put on a lot of weight, and I can't seem to control my feelings towards food. I look at myself, and feel unhappy with my weight, then I end up eating more, and have extreme feelings of guilt after my binge.. I google'd my symptoms, not knowing if it was normal. Every site I visited seemed to suggest compulsive eating disorder.

So I've googled for a forum with other people similar

Sorry for such a rushed introduction.

You have found a wonderful site for support and help. I think you will find that you are not alone. Many, many of us used food in ways other than for fuel. Leenie pointed you to an excellent forum with lots of other folk that know how you are feeling and are working to control their eating.

Glad you found us - I hope you will come back and post often!

Welcome, and good for you for trying to take care of this so early! I wish I had been able to diagnose myself at 16.

I found that when I would compulsively eat that unconsciously it was because there were other things going on. My only point is that so many of my diets failed in high school because I was trying to correct my eating instead of my emotions.

I really hope you find the support and the help that you need here, and I wish you an enormous amount of luck on your journey!

I'm a compulsive eater as well (I would eat more when I was bored than anything else), and I've found that keeping a very strict food diary and making sure to log everything I ate helped me a lot. I recommend www.thedailyplate.com, just make sure you don't follow their bogus advice to "eat back" your calories. It will also let you know how much you should be eating to lose the kind of weight you would like to. I also recommend setting your activity level to the second lowest -- that way you can enter in your exercise as well, but don't have to do it for stuff like "sitting" or "brushing your teeth" -- lol. It has a huge database for googling food items and entering them in. It's been the reason I've lost about 23 of the 36 total pounds so far.

I am proud of you for trying to help yourself. Maybe seeing a nutritionist and would help at your age since you are a teenager whose body is still developing. You can ask your doctor for a referral. Also, getting involved in some more activities, hobbies or social groups may help. The busier you are, the better you may feel and the less you may eat. Is there a counselor at school you can contact about what is stressing you? Just some ideas.
