Red face 10 days into my diet and starting to slide

Yesterday I had my first rough day, and today was also hard. I'm here to seek motivation and support to keep me going. I am a binger. Worse, I'm a complete and utter sugar holic. I haven't had a dessert in 10 days and while I'm proud of myself, every single restaurant, gas station and super market has been screaming my name for the past 48 hours or so.

This gets easier right? I keep thinking if I can make it to two weeks some of the cravings will pass... or maybe it's three weeks.

Today I found myself wanting to binge on vegetables... that's a good sign right?!! I think it's fantastic! and would have, but I'm at work (work overnight) and didn't bring enough with me to qualify as a binge...lol.

I have found that the more I talk about this and seek support from friends/hubby the more they seem to talk about the cookie they just ate, even though I ask them not to talk about dessert to me.

So Here I am. Ready to read all your goals and mini goals and feel inspired! Thanks for the membership.

Well congrats on making it this far. What type of diet are you following? I hear that South Beach is geared towards major sugarholics and they have a 2 week getting started phase that is designed to knock out that addiction. If you haven't visited that section of our forum i would recommend checking them out. I think there would be lots of good support for you there.

Best of luck!! And yes bingeing on vegetable may become habit forming-what a great habit to form.

Sciana! We're happy that you decided to join us!

The key to successful weight loss is finding a plan that will work for you. Since you have a sugar addiction, it does sound as if South Beach Diet may be just what you need to help you kick your addiction. Phase 1 is designed to eliminate your cravings and rid your body of toxins. It's only for 2 weeks and is pretty easy to follow. If you follow it closely, it really does work! Then you'll proceed to Phase 2, which is basically eating normally but avoiding the "whites", (flour, sugar, pasta, breads.) You CAN have whole wheat products, so you never feel deprived. Come on over and check us out, we'll be happy to have you joining us!

Welcome to 3FC! It does get better, I promise. I agree with the advice for South Beach. Remember, the bottom line is that you are in charge of what you eat. You have the power to change your life. Take strength from that knowledge.

I'm glad you are here!

I'm a sugar addict too, but that doesn't mean that you can't eat sweets at all. A piece of dark chocolate once in while it's ok.

First, you have to stop thinking of what you are doing as a DIET. Diets don't work. There are many ways to take control of our eating and I have heard for some people South Beach is a good choice. This journey we are all on is about changing how we think about, look at and eat food. There is no reason we have to do without anything ( OK, maybe at first we take things out of what we allow our selfs to eat until we get our eating under control )within reason. Doing without causes us to back slide and there is no reason for that. You will come to a time that you no longer ALLOW yourself to have certain things. Maybe 1 isn't enough and 50 isn't to many. Maybe certain foods make you crave more and more. For myself, counting calories, fats and carbs. Eating the required amounts of the four basic food groups and exercising each week day has been the way to go. You have to find what works for you.

Fit day is a great site ( there are others ) that help us to see what we are eating and how much we are eating of the different food groups with just a glance at the screen.

I swear by celery as a snack food. I don't even count celery into what I eat a day lol. This is my free food. Veggies are great for us and as long as we are eating the required amounts of the four basic food groups ( mountain dew has its own food group lol ) the more veggies the better.

I personally try to make sure I have enough fats and cabs and calories each day left over after I have eaten the required amounts of the four basic food groups ( not generally a problem because I have to eat more than I need to fill those required amounts just to get enough calories in for the day ) to have a snack every night. I even work in a can of mountain dew a couple of times a week. I love that they have the 8 oz cans. I don't always even drink a full one of those. I have noticed as time has gone on I want the mountain dew is less and less. I use to love the stuff and now it is just to sweet to drink a whole can.

There are some things I still don't ALLOW myself. I didn't say things I can't have. I said things I don't ALLOW myself. There is a difference. CAN'T have is doing without, I can have anything I want. ALLOWING is setting limits for my selfs and making decisions and being accountable for what goes into my body. This is what I mean by how we think about food. I am not ALLOWED to have sugar cookies. Oh those yummy, delectable things. 1 isn't enough and 50 isn't to many lol.

This journey does get easier. I don't even think much about how I eat these days. I eat the required amounts of the four basic food groups each day. I exercise each week day. It is old hat now. I know there are things I just don't allow myself. I know there are things that I am careful how much I eat of. I measure things and weigh things. It is a way of life not a diet.

You will find it gets easier and you feel so good about yourself because YOU make good decisions about what goes into your body, YOU are strong and YOU are in control. No one does this journey for you. YOU are in charge.

Gosh, there is some really good advice here.

I love sweets, too. Do we really have to give them up? I've been looking for recipes so I can still enjoy the sweet things in life.

What about sugar free strawberry jello with a few blueberries tossed in? Or, an apple baked with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon? I read about grilled fruit on one of the other forums here and it sounds delicious!

Oh... I just thought of another thing I like to do. I love caramel but it's very expensive calorie wise. So, I chop up a granny smith apple and just ONE Kraft or milkmade caramel in a bowl. I take tiny nibbles of the caramel with the apple and make it last through the whole apple.

Not sure if any of this will work for you, but I hope so! Best wishes!

Thanks to everyone who posted welcomes I'm so excited to be here and already feel tons of support just from reading forum entries! I am planning to start a detox on the south beach diet. I never really knew what it was before.

Thank you all for the advice!

LOL I laughed so much at the veg cravings bit of your post! I used to wish to be addicted to exercise and vegetables instead of lard and the sofa!
I agree with everything Shy moment had to say, thats pretty much all the info you need!
Good luck!
