Default Just Saying Hi!!

So Today I joined 3FC and Im excited because this looks like a great community full of wonderful people and TONS of support. I plan on being very active on this site ! So hopefully most my post number grows quickly! Watch out!

I know theres gotta be a lot of people out there who have had this happen; you go to the doctors ( for maybe a check up, or your sick, or for some other reason) and of course they make you weigh in, and you haven't weighed your self in a while ( you don't really wanna know what it is) and BAM theres that number.... and that feeling comes over you. Have you ever experienced that feeling. Its pretty deperessing. But usually with the depressing feeling comes a feeling of inspiration. How can I change this? I can't be this heavy, its not healthy, and I hate this! Well this happened to me a couple weeks ago.

I'm 18 years old, I just graduated high school and I'll be starting College in the fall to study Elementary Education. 2.5 years ago I was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes and that was devistating enough. I can remember 6 months before i was diagnosed I was over 200 lbs. Then I lost over 50 lbs with some exercise and some diet. Not much though. And weight was flying off me! I was soooo happy. (isn't that a diet we all would love?) Well I lose all that weight because my body was not producing insulin. Since they I was slowly gaining weight back up to 200 lbs. I remained there for 2 years then I went on an insulin pump because my diabetes was out of control and I needed to do this to save my health. My A1C has dropped from 9.3 to 7.4 ( for the diabetics out there to understand =P) So my diabetes is great!! (well for me) but now its the weight.

Since i've been on the pump, (brace yourselves) its been 6 months and I've gained 25 lbs! It's awful to say and it almost brings tears. I really need to lose weight and manage both my weight AND my diabetes. I'm doing this for myself and for my health. I'm not doing to stay on top of the new trends, not to catch some cute guys eye (I've actually kept a bf through the weight gain and hes said nothing except I'm beautiful through it all) and not for anyone else. There are kids out there that I need to teach, and I need to be alive to teach them and there is so much in life to do. Theres no feeling like the feeling of accomplishing something BIG!

So any advice is welcome. Suggestions. Tips. Or just saying his! If you read all this I thank you! I plan on join weight watchers (well I'd like to) but I just forked over my college tution for the first semester and can you say broke? If there was a level bellow broke, I'd be there. I'd like to try it on my on but I wonder how sucessful it would be? Some people have said go to the meetings, get the information, then stop going. Does that work? I don't know. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Hi there Melissa . . . glad you found us, Chickie . . .

I'm a type II and have been for about 20 years now. I recently managed to get off my insulin because of a respectable weight loss, but the BGL levels are not doing all that great so will probably be shooting up again soon. Trust me, I do understand how difficult it is to lose weight when most of the meds they can give us to control the disease also help to pack on the pounds.

Hope you'll come over and join us in the Diabetes Support Forum . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=203 . . . most of us are Type II (just like the majority of the population of our diabetic world :dizzy), but we do have a few Type I's around too. We all share a lot of the same problems and concerns, anyway.

Look forward to getting to know you better.
