It's so very true- I thought I had cut out most of my sugar when I stopped drinking caffiene- I was majorly into sweet tea Yummy, southern girl likes her tea!!! Oh well, lol since then... I've been doing tons of studying because let's face it I'm a nerd!! And, I KNOW that I've heard this before that 4 grams of sugar in a product is essentially one teaspoon of the powdered white variety LOL
So, my son who LOVES pepsi is getting about 17 teaspoons of sugar in ONE bottle of pepsi- being that ONE bottle- is 2.5 servings LOL Needless to say, he no longer drinks pepsi!! or any other bottled carbonated caffienated beverage.. sigh lol
I went through my fridge and I was shocked!! LOL I love barbecue sauce... tossed it all LOL There's so much sugar in everything that we eat there's NO question as to how we gain weight slowly over time...
I was never a pop or tea person (ie. no added sugar). I still enjoy homemade jam a couple of days a week. And, well, they'll have to pry my ketchup out of my cold, dead hand.
Pure liquid calories (ie. high sugar) always do feel like a waste of calories to me, but hey, easy for me to say since I never bothered with them much.
I like using a slimfast every now and then. dont do them often because of the sugar in them. I was a pepsi addict and now dont even want them. I had an upset stomach a few weeks ago and tried to drink a soft drink thinking it might settle my stomach..oh man they are sweet!! We were also big snack cake eaters..little debbie cakes. I rarely buy anything like that now.
I was horribly addicted to Mountain Dew and lots of sugary coffee and tea (southern girl here too). I'd literally start my day with 3 cups of coffee with about 9 sugar cubes total, then drink nothing but southern sweetened tea or Mountain Dew for the rest of the day.
I actually attribute the speed at which I'm losing to my change of drinking habits. Yes, my eating habits have changed somewhat too and definitely my exercise habits, but the drinks, for me at least, were the major sugar in my diet.
I now drink 3 cups of coffee sweetened with splenda in the morning. I allow myself no more than 1 glass of unsweetened tea or splenda sweetened carbonated soda a day. The rest is nothing but water, and lots of it.
Anne- I can totally appreciate the need for ketchup! Processed or not, I'd die without mustard LOL
dgramie- that's the hard thing- lil debbie is an evil witch LOL My son loves her honeybuns, so they're always in the house but I make him grab his own so I don't go near them LOL
Snapless- drinks are awful- it's amazing how we just drink it because it tastes good not thinking of the horrid liquid calories or lack of nutritional value in them...
I'm scared of splenda- lol so I don't touch anything that has splenda in it... the longest human test they did was for 13 weeks, everything else was done on rats and rabbits before it was approved for human consumption LOL it's an organochlorine- LOL Other organochlorines include mustard gas and DDT LOL Stuff weirds me out LOL

Unfortunately it is a choice between it and nutrasweet where I live, and aspartame is, IMO, far worse than splenda. I just can't bring myself to drink coffee black.
I am working on getting some wheylow shipped over though.
That's good that you've become a sugar ****. You'll save money on dental visits as well.
I was just telling my bf the other day, "if we ever have kids the are never going to have sugar". This was after his 2 yr old nephew went nuts after a few bits of chocolate.
I know it's unrealistic to expect that, but if sugar can cause hyperactivity in kids I think it's best to avoid it.
Taurie-- UGH Dentists lol My five year old had four teeth pulled when he was three due to him running and tripping into a stainless steel countertop- argh lol sooo freakin expensive lol The thing about your teeth is its giving kids sticky and acidic foods- like raisins and orange juice LOL Awful stuff lol
I do not eat or drink anything with added sugars. Of course there are natural sugars in fruits, dairy, etc. I use some Splenda, but prefer to avoid artificial sweeteners. One good alternative I use is agave nectar. It is a natural sweetener from the agave plant, and has a much lower glycemic impact than other sugars. Stevia is another option. Of course you should not overdo these either, but right now I take a little agave nectar in my tea in the morning (about a tsp), and I sometimes drizzle it over my yogurt in the evening.
