Default Whey Protein Anyone?

Has anyone tried Whey Protein and have they had good experiences with it? I was put on to it by my trainer and told me to do one protein shake a day to help build muscle, but I am unsure if it's like the HGH or just a natural supplement like a vitamin? So what do you girls think about it? TIA

I make myself a Designer Whey shake most mornings. It's an acquired taste but I highly recommend it! I don't get a lot of protein otherwise so it works well.

I think if you're going to do a protein shake Whey is definitely the best. Basically it's just milk protein and it's the most easily absorbed by your body (when compared to other protein types like soy, for example). I'd try and go for the whey protein isolate because there's no other additives like sugars or aritificial sweeteners. For the most part I try not to drink my calories but if you're having trouble getting protein in and having it as a snack (or even breakfast) I think it's a good choice. I usually just throw some in a smoothie with frozen fruit and milk and yogurt and blend it all together so you don't really taste anything.

I use it to supplement the protein I'm already getting, not to make up for a lack (I'm trying to build muscle...for a while at least). I like it and feel it is helping with my getting into a good physical condition again.

If you're going for taste, Syntrax Nectar is actually quite delicious. It's a whey protein isolate, it has like 24g of protein in one scoop with no sugar, carbs, aspertame, or any of that stuff. Plus, with names like Fuzzy Navel...how could you resist?

Default Yeah, it works...

There isn't anything like HGH in it or anything, but the extra protein allows your muscles to recover more quickly and hinders the collection of lactic acid. You don't get as sore, and you have more energy so you can work out longer and harder. You just have to replenish the protein every time you work out so your muscles can build up again. My husband goes through one of those huge tubs of GNC whey protein every two weeks, but he's a BIG dude (S.F., you know how they are...) and he does those army-wide lifting/strength, and UAC competitions.

For the everyday woman just wanting to tone up, an 8oz glass AFTER you work out, or as a meal replacement will give your body what it needs, but BE CAREFUL!!!!!!! Adjust your diet accordingly, or you had better be burning upwards of 2000 cals a day. I've known many a friend to start drinking that stuff in conjunction with a workout program to 'tone up faster' and end up getting fat instead. When they say it replaces meals, they mean it!

I just started back on protein shakes this week, using Body Fortress.

I used it as a meal replacement last night, just after my workout. I wasn't very hungry and it was getting late. I also drink one scoop daily at 4-5pm. It's very good when mixed with one of those green tea to go drink powders.

I didn't know the Whey Protein shakes were meal replacements. That is something new to learn for me. I will definitely adjust my caloric intake now. My ex is Infantry and is using that stuff now to get ready for Ranger school. I actually lol'd when I read that you know how they are comment.

Yeah who could resist to Fuzzy Navel. I love it. I just want to build some lean muscle. I don't want to get huge just be lean and fit.

Well, you got your fitness advice from a man, so i'm not surprised. What works for them usually makes us women fat or potentially manly looking. I think a lot of men forget they burn a lot more calories a day simply because of how their bodies function. The female friend I mentioned started to use it the same way her army husband did by drinking a shake three times a day and eating her meals with him the same as always, and even doing intense hour long cardio workouts 5 days a week. He got ripped and gained 20lbs of muscle in three months while she packed on 14lbs of pudge and couldn't figure out how it was happening. She thought she was pregnant, but it was the protein supplement.

LMFAO!!!!!!!! I remember the ranger school days fondly. My husband still wears those little green ranger school running "shorts" (I don't care what he says, those things are PANTIES or at the absolute most hot shorts) during warm weather on his 12+ mile runs. I like to make him do chores immediately when he gets home. I *love* watching him vacuum the stairs in those things. Tell your ex to save himself some heartache and buy a big tub of vasoline for his 'boy parts' and inner thighs while he's there. He'll understand the first time he starts to feel the burn of a man-chafe...

LMFAO!!!! Those things are PANTIES!! haha too funny! I'll be sure to tell him about the Vaseline. I love the making him do chores! lol

No I actually got the advice from my trainer who is a women and said to have a protein shake an hour after my strength training with some fruit as a snack. I remember back in the day when the ex was starting to take the supplements before doing blue to green and he bulked up FAST by doing shakes 3x a day! I was like yeahhhhh I don't think I want to be a body builder. I do want to ask you NishKitten. I read that you were in the Army and felt you were bulked up, is that just from daily PT or added exercise in the evening?

Both. I'm a very sinewy person naturally anyway, and the company PT was fairly intense but not enough to keep me fit enough to pass my APFT at 85% in every category so I worked out on my own every day as well. My competitive coach was usually my husband -- surprise! -- so I always had something to work up to, and I was always being sent to do stupid good-for-nothing crap that I always had to be in top shape for like Air Assault, and that warrior training crap where some dude beats you up for two weeks. Then ONTOP of all that our job requires lifting 700-1000lb transfer cases and stuff.

I see NishKitten. Sounds like a lot of fun! :S So are you out of the Army now? That's nice you have someone close to you to motivate you.

There's info on whey protein in this week's Woman's World. The diet subjects this week added one scoop to 2 servings of yogurt (~60gram total).

So I received my Whey Protein on Sat. and didn't get a chance to try it on Sunday. I tried it today and I made the most delicious shake and couldn't taste the Whey in it. I was very surprised at the fact I couldn't taste it. YAY!
