My husband and I went out for a nice dinner last night and I realized something. I could probably make a fortune off some of these restaurants. Everywhere we go, when I ask for a box for the 3/4 of my food still on my plate, they ask if everything was ok because I didn't eat much. I could lie and say no but I am not that type of person. There are some places that we frequent regularly that now bring me a box with my meal or even put half my sandwich or wrap at lunch time in a to go container right away now that I have explained that I have had gastric bypass to some of the waitresses. Now last night our waitress was not some young thing so I explained a bit saying I can't eat alot at one siting due to a surgery but that was it. Do you ever feel bad for these waitresses who think something is wrong with what they served you? And, how do you explain when asked.
I used to feel bad but then if I didn't like the food I wouldn't be taking it home. So if they ask if everything was ok, say yes, thats why I'm taking it home, it was delicious.
I think I only told one waitress about my surgery, she sat down next to me and I felt kinda bad so I explained and she was like OOOOOH!! made her feel better thats for sure.
Congrats on your WL Ophelia, you've done really well.
I sometimes feel bad! I stopped saying I did not want anything to drink becuase of the funny looks I was getting. I would say I do not want anything and then they keep asking over and over! Now I just order it and do not drink it!
Isn't that a dumb order and then when they bring it I don't drink it. Just swish my mouth out after I'm done. I've stopped taking some of the food home because I'm tired of all the boxes in the frig! All they do is fall out or I forget about them. I have to tell them everytime, "Yes the food was good, but I just couldn't quite eat it all right now."
Ophelia: How is the DH and dieting going? You haven't killed him yet?! ?LOL! My DH is reading a book that I ordered called "Choose to Lose Weight-Loss Plan for Men: A take-control program for men with the guts to lose" We have discussed the tricky part about losing weight, it isn't that hard to take it off for him, it is about keeping it off. I've actually been impressed by his determination not second helpings except veggies and nightly ice cream raids after 38 years have stopped.
Yeah, seems like a lot of them keep looking at you like you're going to complain to the manager even after you say everything was good. Lately I usually just order an appetizer (because I've found they're usually the perfect size) and then they just think I'm not hungry.
Well I finally got DH to realize that it isn't so much how much he is eating but what he is eating. However, I have found that when I say that he made a good food choice he seems to think that means he can eat the entire plate and then seconds. I think he just misunderstands the whole dieting concept. I have said before that his mother had WLS several years ago and her problem then wasn't just how much she was eating but poor food choices and I think she passed that along to her son. He will go from eating healthy (ok sometimes not healthy but xtreme dieting) to eating whatever he wants whenever he wants. Like yesterday at lunch he downed six slices of plain pizza... his reasoning was he didn't eat breakfast...my response was well don't skip a single meal. Even if you just eat fruit or a piece of toast. Once again though I don't know what I am talking about. He did good at dinner though. A bowl of soup for him and half a sandwich...While I had a cup of sou and half a sandwich.
