PCOS/Insulin Resistance SupportSupport for us with any of the following: Insulin Resistance, Syndrome X, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or other endocrine disorders.
First I thought I would start with a Definition of PCOS:
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) – A genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation. PCOS also may cause overproduction of estrogen, abnormal thickening of the uterine lining, very heavy and/or irregular periods, as well as acne and facial hair. The latter are caused by an overproduction of male hormones, including testosterone. -- There are tons of info out there on the web, so if you want more info, just go to your favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc) and type in PCOS. Another great site (besides this one of course for info is: Soul Cysters. Also here are a couple links for Forum Abbreviations: Basic Forum Abbreviations and the TTC/Infertility Abbreviations
I have decided to bring back the daily thread support again because I could use it and I am sure others on here could as well. I really hate this disease. It makes me angry because I feel like I have lost control of my body, like someone else is "at the wheel" and keeps driving me off into a Gigantic Ditch over and over again.
But I plan getting up, dusting myself off and trying again. I plan on doing some more research and try to work with this stinkin' disease instead of against it.
So please come and join me, won't you? If you or someone you know has PCOS and you want support in WL and just general everyday support, please come and join us. You do not have to necessarily have to be TTC or not TTC. I am currently not TTC, but if you are, then that is wonderful too. If you do not have PCOS and maybe are just curious about the disease, then feel free to join us as well. Everybody is Welcome!!
Hope to Chat with you Soon!!!
Hope you all have a wonderful Independence Day!!! (those in the USA)

I wasn't really thinking! I should have noticed that it said July in the title. Oh well! July is my favorite month, as it is my birth month. So I'll start it a little early!
I thought I would say that I'm a little bummed about having PCOS because when I was diagnosed back around the year 2000, they did an ultrasound of my ovaries and they didn't have any cysts. But recently, I have been ill so I asked them to check my ovaries again. And although they aren't enlarged, they do have cysts now. I do want to have another baby so I have been feeling worried lately. Plus, I am having some symptoms such as itching on my extremities, so I am worried now about my liver. I don't want to be a hypochondriac but it's hard to not worry. I'm just eating really healthy and getting exercise. I'm believing that my body can heal! I am hoping that if I lose a lot of weight, my health will improve in general. I have heard a woman on the internet claim that all her PCOS problems went away when she lost all her excess body weight (even her blood results became normal).
I have the biggest headache and have had it all week long! UGH! No matter what I take it never goes away!!! Or if it goes away it comes back!! Annoying!!! Esp when trying to work! lol. Aw well at least its MY Friday!!!! Is it 9:30 AM yet? (<--when I get off of work) lol.
Hello All and Welcome to our Thread, allabouttheskinny!!!
I know that first being diagnosed can be very tough to swallow. The best advice I can give is to research, research, research. Now there is loads of info out there about PCOS and that is what helped me when I was first diagnosed. But I know we are all different, but just know, you are not alone!!!
My news: DH is going to be coming to MY shift, so we'll be on the same schedules again! I get to see my husband again for more than an hr or so!!! Work has some changes coming, I am keeping on my "positive" hat about them all, So far from what I've "heard" its going to be good. I hope you are all well!!!
I hope you all have a Wonderful and SAFE 4th of July!!!
Can I join in here? I obviously haven't been very active around these forums, but I'm hoping to change that. A little background info about me: I'm 25, I got diasgnosed with PCOS 3 years ago after DH and started TTC. I just went to a nutritionist last week, something I should have done a long time ago. So, I finally have a plan that will hopefully work for me. I'm glad to see this thread. It's hard enough losing weight, but but having PCOS makes it that much harder.

Hello and and of course you can join us! Everybody is welcome here.
Glad that you have a plan that will work for you!!
Yes losing weight with PCOS is like trying to roller skate up an icy hill. Or that is how I look at it anyways. Its possible, but it ain't gonna be easy! lol.
Sorry that I've been a little MIA. Dh came back home from a 2 month workup, so I've been spending a lot of time with him. Ever since he's been home, I havent been eating right. But I'm not gaining or losing any weight. I should probably see a nutritionist too..but I'm just wondering what is it all about?? Do they put you on a strict diet?? Or what?

Hey Chic. Its totally understandable, I'd be spending time with my DH too if I were you, in your situation! I only get to see my husband about 2 hrs a day or something, if that, for now at least. But I know at least he is here safe at home or at work. So no probs, we understand.
I saw a nutritionist when I was first diagnosed with Diabetes and she basically just went over portion sizes and healthy choices for me. They should work with you on what would work best for you and my nutritionist told me point blank to not try one of the "fad" diet plans, esp with me being a diabetic and all.
Now I just need to take her advice and eat what she said I should. lol. If I had I'd probably be close or at my goal weight by now!
This was the first time that I had seen a nutritionist and she seemed very surprised that my Dr. had not referred me to one sooner. I actually made the decision to go on my own. My Dr. never encouraged me to see a nutritionist. I'm glad I did though. She basically just went over portion sizes and told me about making better food choices. She also gave me a meal plan that tells me what to eat when. It's broken down into three meals and three snacks a day. It doesn't strictly say you have to eat only 'this,' but it does limit the amount of carbs, fruits, and other starchy foods you eat. Does that make sense?

Thats great that you went ahead and met with the nutrionist and decided to be healthier!
I've been reading and following Jillian Michaels' (the trainer on The Biggest Loser) book and meal plans, and doing her DVDs. I must say, I usually hate workout tapes, but her DVDs are so fun and make me feel great. They go fast, too. I've been having a blast all weekend
Saturday I got my period naturally (they are about 75 days apart, so like 2.5 months) and I'm pretty miserable today; some scary stuff going on (or maybe I'm just not used to getting it). Ugh, I wanna be home and curled up in 4 comforters.
One thing I love, though, is when I do get it I have no appetite (or a normal appetite?). I eat exactly the portions I should, and feel great. No urges to over eat. I wonder if our bodies are actually balanced when we finally get our periods on PCOS? Because besides the bloat and cramps and nausea and chest tenderness, I always feel better when I get it.
