I work at an ice cream and candy store. This will be my last summer and it is too late to find another job now. However, I can be really good at eating until I get to work and have been schooping ice cream for hours.
Anyone lese work around junk food? like McDonald's or something?
How do you deal. What things can I do to not give in to the temptation that is right in front of me!!!
1. Always eat a healthy meal before you go to work. Something with plenty of fiber and protein. These 2 things help you feel full longer. If you aren't hungry then it is easier to resist. Bring a lunch if you have to eat at work.
2. Find the reason you are losing weight and think of it every time you are about to eat anything. Try and stay motivated. Someone on here has a really good quote. "Dieting is hard, losing weight is hard, being fat is hard... pick your hard" Good Luck!!
I work in a grocery store with all kinds of good deli food, bakery goodies, samples, candy, and all kinds of temptation around 5 days a week 10 hours a day. I have found that actually packing a lunch and snacks everyday is the only way I won't just go get something quick (and full of fat). I also constantly have a bottle of water on my desk in my office, it seems to help. I admit my resolve really wavers when you smell the cookies baking.
I work at a coffee shop, and we churn out cookies, scones, cakes. Most of them are made by myself, so its really freaking hard to avoid eating. I end up giving in a lot, But to fight I try iced green teas, and water.
I work part time at a movie theatre, while I am cross trained on everything in the theatre, I do have to work concession stand from time to time. Lucky for me, I am not a fan of nachos or soda, and I am a Vegetarian. Leaves the popcorn, which for break we can get a small bag of it (very small). I tell myself, if I have 5 shifts that week, I can reward myself ONCE with it. If I slip up, I don't get my cheat day for the week.
I have worked at McDonalds for a summer. It might be the restaurant, but I have seen things in that kitchen that made me stop eating at McDonalds ever since. Haven't had one in 3 years.
I used to waitress at tgi fridays and then I worked for starbucks - do I know what you are talking about. Back then I didn't really care what I put in my mouth - but looking back on it I would have kept a mint in my mouth. Tootsie (sp?) pops maybe a good one for you at the end of the day as a reward for being good. They won't do much calorie damage and you get chocolate!
I worked at an Italian deli for a year in 2005 while I was finishing up school, during the height of my weightloss endeavors. It helped that I'm vegetarian, so I wouldn't touch any of the sausage or cold cuts, but I would definitely eat cheese, fried eggplant, delicious bread, etc. I don't know HOW I didn't gain weight (I didn't lose either, I maintained), but I guess since i was on my feet for 8 hours, pumping away at the meat slicer (good bicep workout, btw) and moving around a lot, i was also burning a lot of calories. And at least it was FOOD, not just icecream and candy, so it wasn't totally nutrient-free.
My best advice would be to make sure you don't go to work hungry or let yourself get hungry while there. Also, maybe let yourself have a little something like once a week (right before you leave for the day so you aren't tempted to keep snacking as you work). I would usually try not to eat during the beginning/middle of my shift.
I manage a pizzeria on the weekends, so I know what you're talking about. I'm there making pizzas and subs and all sorts of deep fried and grease laden foods. I always eat right before I go to work and then I bring a bag of food with me. That way, in case I get hungry, I know that that's there and I can just munch on that.
I agree with what everyone else said about not going to work hungry and remember what you are doing. I also suggest keeping some healthy snacks like 100 calorie packs in your bag and while your at work either chewing sugar free gum or sucking on a piece of sugar free candy. Also drink tons of water it is a natural appaitite suppressent.
