Hi Irene! There are soooo many diet plans, and you'll find lots of info here. Personally, I'm a big fan of Weight Watchers. The first time I joined was when I was 18 and felt the same as you do now. What I like about WW is that nothing is "forbidden". You just work things into your daily allotment. Good luck with whichever way you go. You can do it! And doing it while you're still young is a great idea!

Hi Irene -- welcome I think your first step is researching different diet plans; see which one seems best for you and your life -- since you're still in school, you don't necessarily want something too restrictive that you couldn't easily follow while at school, for instance. But look into Atkins, South Beach Diet, Weight Watchers, calorie counting, etc. and see what makes sense. Then, I would look into a way to work out at home, since you said you feel embarassed to go out and exercise. I can all but guarantee that not as many people are making fun of your weight as you think, but even so there are MANY ways to work out at home -- look into some weight training DVDs and some cardio ones. Good luck!

Try just making small changes (i.e., give up sodas, vow to eat no more fast food, do not buy the trigger foods, take a 10 minute walk everyday, don't order the huge size latte with whipped cream, etc.) -- and understand one thing...it is NOT easy and it does NOT happen overnight. You really have to be patient with yourself - but small changes become habit, and then you can add more small changes - perhaps integrate some of the great diet/lifestyle programs people mentioned here - until you start losing some weight and gaining confidence.

Talking about how to lose weight is easy...it's sticking to your program and making it a way of life that's difficult. I try and visit support forums every day and post at least once per day. I go to my WW meetings every week. I journal my food every day (even when I mess up, lol). I've completely given up sodas & pizza delivery. I don't beat myself up anymore if I do mess up (this is a huge one!). Each day, the little things become habit and I gain more confidence in myself.

You've made the first step. You just have to believe in yourself and then you have to work!

You're not allowed to cook? What kinds of food do they offer? If it all seems unhealthy, you can start with just becoming 'aware' of your food intake, and eating smaller portions. Then, look around for diets or plans you feel you can stick to.
personally, weightwatchers did not work for me and my friends referred me to this crazy-sounding diet program.. I'm doing a very restrictive, insane-sounding diet but it works, and it took me many times to stick to it.
So, now that you know you want to lose weight, don't feel depressed about it, be happy that you are deciding to do so! That is the first step! Secondly, find the diet that suits you and your lifestyle.. and THEN.. create a plan and MENTALLY prepare yourself. Don't go into it in a state depression, go into it knowing it will be hard, it will be frustrating at times, but it will be worth it.
The weight loss is all on you!
