Default Coffee??!

Hi everyone, I was just wondering since I´m a calorie counter and black coffee contain hardly any calories, wether it´s okay to drink it?
I love to drink coffee to give me energy but I´ve heared something about coffee messing up your blood sugar and giving you cravings

So do you think it will interfere with my weight-loss?

thanks in advance!

I think it is different for each person.
Personally - I drink at least 2 cups a day, plus a latte in the afternoon. The caffeine doesn't affect me too much. I don't drink it black.
Although I do try to have decaf if I am going to have a latte at night.

It might affect you differently on an empty stomach than with meals.

This is a big weakness of mine. I drink anywhere from 3-7 cups a day. I add creamer also, which contains calories. I work into my day, but I should stop.

You would have to pry my coffee out of my fingers!

I drink 2 or 3 cups early in the day, and then nothing after that, usually. (There are some exceptions, though.) I think it's fine. The main thing is that folks not overdo it on caffeine--then you get into sleep disturbance, clenched jaw syndrome, etc. etc.

Coffee doesn't prevent you from losing weight but from what I believe it can slow down the process. And you can suffer cravings and health problems like migraines, but that is only if you drink an excess about - like more than 5 cups a day. If you don't drink too much then I can't really see a problem

I'm a calorie counter and I drink a ton of coffee also. I've had some success at least initially, so I don't feel like it's impacted my weight loss.

Coffee dehydrates you, which I guess could interfere with weightloss in that way. But coffee and the whole coffee experience (going to get coffee with a friend, having it in the morning, having conversations over coffee, etc.) is just too good for me to give up. So I compensate by drinking (or trying to remember to drink) more water.

Default iced

I drink a 24 ounce iced coffee without any sweetener, but with a little creamer most days from Starbucks. It really helps me stave off hunger for a good few hours and I only count it as two points because of the creamer. I try to have one either right after breakfast or right after lunch. I have lost 17 pounds since April 7 and have been having at least four of those a week.

The idea that coffee is bad for you is a myth. Coffee is not a diuretic and doesn't dehydrate you. The only reason you pee more when you drink it is because you are drinking a beverage. Coffee absolutely counts as a fluid in terms of maying sure you are hydrated. Studies have also shown some evidence that coffee can help prevent diabetes, heart disease, and Parkinson's syndrome in women. Caffeinated coffee can boost your metabolism and, if you drink it before you work out, can actually improve your workout.

For some people (including me), the caffeine can mess with your blood sugar and give you that shaking hungry feeling. But there are lots of people that don't have that problem. I'm sure if I got back into the habit of drinking caffeinated coffee, my body would adjust and I'd be fine with it. But I'm happy with my decaf. If you get shaky hungry after drinking coffee, you might not want to drink or might want to switch to decaf. If you don't get that feeling, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Just like anything, too much coffee can be bad for you. But in moderation, up to a few cups a day, is fine and may even have a number of health benefits.

I'm one of the odd balls that drinks a cup of coffee... maybe a day... I do add creamer and some splenda... But i don't rely on that cup.. if I'm out with DH, or a friend or whatever.. sometimes with or when i go out to breakfast. But generally, I'm not a huge coffee drinker on a regular basis...
this is a link to the coffee science information centre FAQ
It does mention that coffee, because of the caffeine is a mild dieuretic. In moderation it does not have much of an effect, however because most it does have an influence...it does mention that a moderate amount is 4-5cups a day.. which most of us have that as a maximum... I couldn't imagine having 5cups of coffee!!! so when only having up to 5 cups of coffee a day...it is considered as drinking plain water oh and Decaf has pretty much no effect...

I am a coffee addict. Switched from cream to 2% and sometimes 1% milk a bit back to help and always use sweeteners instead of sugar. I find coffee helps to curb cravings because it leaves a taste on my tongue. Also, for me, I find that coffee really helps with fiber-related issues.

I was off caffeine for almost a year, and I can't say that I noticed any amazing health benefits. In fact, my doctor ended up recommending I go back on caffeine because it was a safer alternative than prescription meds to treat the fatigue I experience with my fibromyalgia.

Ideally, I would be getting my caffeine from tea or even coffee, because Diet Mountain Dew Code Red does not have the beneficial antioxidants. I am learning to like tea, but still hate coffee (unless it's so mocha-upped it's a diet nightmare). Oddly, I do like chocolate covered coffee beans, but they are DANGEROUS.

Hubby bought some from from Gloria Jean's and I ate them - well like candy. I had about six beans, and became truly WIRED. Learned my lesson with that one!

I'm a total coffee head, lots and lots of shots of espresso throughout the day, every day. It doesn't give me any cravings except for more coffee! I do drink it black if that matters.

When I saw the doctor last week I mentioned my voracious appetite for caffeine and she said it was fine. In her opinion caffeine helps with concentration and performance. I mentioned I was cutting back on the coffee and energy drinks before working out and she said not to sweat it.

kaplods- that's pretty funny about the coffee beans. Sounds like something I would do!
