OKay guys and gals...My name is christi. I'm 23 years old and i am obese. Not a surprise i'm sure. I'm 309 pounds as of now, I'm 12 pounds lighter now, since starting my weight loss journey 3 weeks ago. What this all stems down to is January 21, 2008 I watched my mother die in front of me. She was only 48 years old. Now, my mother wasnt even 200 pounds, she was probably 175 pounds. But heart disease runs in her family. Her mother and father both died of heart attacks before they were 48. Well my mom had just had open heart surgury, and me being a Nurse knew the risks. She developed an infection and died 6 days later. She was my best friend. I vowed to myself that I would not end up like that no matter what I had to do. My father doesnt have cardiovascualr problems on his side of the family, but I'm afraid i will if I don't do something. Heridity is a major cause of heart disease. So, now i start my journey and my life changing experisnce. I hope everyone reaches their goals. So a little more about me, i'm 23, a Travel nurse and married to a wonderful man for 1 year. he is SUPER skinny though! So it is hard for us to diet together, but he is way supportive. We both got gym memberships so he could buff up and could slim down. He weighs 136 pounds! Lucky dawg!. Okay, well i've got to get going.
You can be healthier. You already are healthier having lost 12 pounds!
It's wonderful that your husband is supportive There are things, though, when losing weight, that it's nice to be able to talk to someone (or even all these nice folks here) who have "been there, done/doing that".
So. How are you going about making these changes? Following a program? Doing any physical activity? Let us know
Christi, I can totally relate. Although I am 175lbs, my husband is super skinny too. Right now he is 165lbs - we gained 10 in Iraq and put on tons of muscle working out, it is harding being fluffy with a skinny spouse. Since he got home on Wednesday, we have vowed to lose this weight together and put weight on him. So far we have been to the gym twice. It is so nice to have support and the other person pushing to get up and go. I think the hardest part is just showing up. Good luck on your journey and dont forget why you are doing this....to be healthy for yourself and your family.
Hi there Actually I am on a diet plan from my gynecologist. We are basically trying to lose enough weight to get my periods on a regular schedule and have started with the 1200-1500 calorie range. Lots of people on here keep telling me that it isnt healthy, but I trust my doctor and I feel great, I feel better than i've felt in YEARS! I'm not tired, and I get adequate nutrition. I'm taking vitamin supplements with my diet program recommended by my MD ( folic acid, b12, zinc) I'm sure people here are just trying to be helpful and what may work for someone doesnt necesarily work for them. I speak with a dietician on days I see my doctor and get weighed. I usually exercise 3 times a week, bust mostly i use my job as a form of exercise. I am a nurse and I walk constantly for 8 hours. I eat a heart healthy breakfast every morning, dry ceral with skim milk or weight control oatmeal. Snacks inbetween usually an apple or a bag of mixed veggies i've prepared the night before. Things are looking great for the first time in a long time! Can't wait for even more results.
Christi - If you trust your doctor & she's helping you to lose the weight in a healthy way, then that's all that matters. You know your body, and you know your doctor.
Everyone here just wants to make sure everyone else is safely losing the weight. (You might be amazed at some of the things people will begin doing for the sake of losing weight.)
Keep it up! Looks like you've put a lot of thought into this, and by following your doctor's instructions & with help from your dietician, you're heading in the right direction
I am so sorry about your mom, I can't even imagine... It's great you have started your journey... We are close in age and not too far apart in starting weight either. I feel like I can relate to you because my periods are messed up as well (more like nonexistent, and it's one of the main reasons I'm doing this) Good luck and don't give up!!
WElcome ...
I started my weight loss at a weight close to yours. My dr also put me on my diet. I am eating 1400-1500 calories a day. I think as long as you make healthy real food choices its good. I have lost 40lbs so far .

Christi..
first off welcome to the group! Warning though..you will LOVE this place! Everyone is so loving and supportive.
I am sorry about your loss. My grandparents raised me and they are now both gone and it is a void that can never be filled.
I am the "heavy" one in my relationship as well. My hubby is about 150. Mr skinny. BUT he is by no means in shape!! LOL we recently joined the YMCA with the kids and are loving it. He quickly found out that skinny does not mean healthy. He, like your hubby, is my biggest supporter!!!!
Post often here it really really helps!!!

Reason: typos ugh
We all are on different levels but have alot in common! We all started this journey because we wanted a change in our lives or our lives to come!
I'm so grateful for my DH's support....he has put on alot of extra weight so he is dieting with me, however he will reach his goal sooner than I will........but we have vowed this is not just a diet.......this is our eating for life.......because we both know that we will have to maintain after we lose so we can't go back to the way we were eating.
Join in on the weekly thread we start a new one each monday!
