Default The Weekend Beach Chick-Chat

Happy Weekend!

The rain finally stopped, so if it's dry enough, I plan to plant several flats of flowers and patio containers this morning. This afternoon we have my nephew's college graduation with dinner afterwards, so that should take up most of the day.

What's everyone doing today?

Coolish and gray here but it's not supposed to rain.

I drove my company to Ottawa Airport yesterday and am feeling a bit draggy today. Three hours of driving kind of stiffens the knee. This morning I will be cashier at the Hort. Society Mega-Plant sale but it will be a sitting down job! This sale is huge! Everyone descends as doors open at 9, grabs, pays and leaves. It's like watching a flock of seagulls.

This afternoon I plan to move some plants that have migrated into my veggie garden so Moel can till for me. It's time to get those seeds in and I can almost taste my wee filet beans! The crab apple is blooming, my asparagus and rhubarb have started, the well pump is connected so it's off the butt time in the garden.

It's Mother's Day weekend so mother yourself a little bit.

Good morning Chicks

A busy day here - I have a gardening workshop to help implement this morning. After that it's off to do the usual errands and grocery shopping with an eye to things we will need in Maine that are hard to get nearby. I do hope to make it home to do some gardening, and of course cycling, this afternoon. Someone told me about a climbing spinach variety I'm itching to check out. I'm so glad the rain didn't happen!

Cottage - What varieties do you plant? Sounds like a busy, fin day

GonnaBe - Enjoy the bike ride I've been missing Kara too! Hope she is just crazy busy but happy.

Have a good day all.

Hmm, it's kind of a gray day here, but that's good since my 3 yo daughter has the croup!! UGH!

I'm off to work, and hopefully we'll work on my vegetable garden later today. My kids LOVE fresh veggies...I want to nurture that!

Hi TwynnB and and to The Beach. Isn't veggie garden a wonderful thing? We just may have to resurrect our Beach Gardening Thread this weekend.

Morning all...sounds like gardening day on the beach!!

I just put the sprinkler out on my veg garden. Have some little baby squash and white grape tomatoes that are just about ready for picking. oh boy! The rest of the day is a big question mark. Getting ready to go clean out the fridge...there is a very questionable cucumber in there...at least I THINK it's a cucumber..either that or some alien had babies in the fridge.

Tomorrow I'm going to a cathedral in Baton Rouge where my youngest son (20) will be confirmed, then he and oldest son and I are going out to eat. My daughter sent me the cutest white sun dress for Mother's day along with 3 pairs of flip flops...that girl knows me well!! My husband works on Sundays, so won't be able to join us.

Hubby and I had a date yesterday afternoon and went out to eat at a great place with a patio. I had a wonderful tuna stuffed tomato that was on a bed of salad with raspberry vinegarette dressing. I also made the mistake of having 2 gin and gingers with a twist of lime. They didn't have diet gingerale and I was STARVING a couple of hours later...had to be the sugar. So I had a few Mary's gone crackers and some laughing cow and it seemed to do the trick.

I had some notecards and stamps made for my Mom using some swamp pictures I took a couple of weeks ago...she got them yesterday and was very happy with them. She writes to family/friends just about daily and goes through a lot of notecards and stamps!

Brian and I went to a Wood Badge beading last night for 8 guys from one Troop. It was so much fun and we went out to eat afterwards with about 50 people. The food wasn't exactly on plan but at least I drank Diet Coke and stayed away from alcohol.

Today is the Scout Show. It is a HUGE event with hundreds of booths put on by different Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing units as well as district and council. I'll be working the council day camp booth all day and Brian will spend a couple of hours at his Troop booth. It is always a lot of fun. His troop is doing crepe cooking and will give out samples.

Later this evening my registrar and her son are coming over. The boys will play while we process all the forms turned in on Thursday night at Roundtable.

TwynnB- Welcome to the Beach! The workshop I'm off to do is for child care providers who want to garden with kids. I've got tons of info if you want any more ideas for bringing your kids into the garden. I was able to bring my passion into my work and it's been a lot of fun

Now to find a way to encourage bird watching!

Hi busy chicks, I got up and did my grocery run this morning and went by the Farmer's Market. It's rainy here and the first day of the market for the season, so not too many vendors but I got some asparagus, spring salad mix, rhubarb, and sugar snap peas. Seems like a good day for cooking so once I get everything put away I think I'll make some Nessa bars, bean brownies, and deviled eggs. I'm going to try a crockpot meatloaf recipe that a friend swears is really good, although I'm dubious about doing a meatloaf in the crockpot.
DS has horseback riding and plans with friends.
DD1 is babysitting my friends kids here so I'll have 3 extra rugrats underfoot today.
Don't know what DD2 has cooking but I'm sure it's something. We plan to regroup here tonight and watch Indiana Jones together. I might do some tidying in my room and need to get in a WATP.
I need to get my tomatoes in the garden, DH got it all prepped last weekend, but I don't know if that'll happen this weekend.
Have a good one chicks.

Happy Day, Chicks! It's Saturday!!

Cottage: Congrats to nephew! What a great accomplishment for him. Enjoy your planting time today...I'm taking a Saturday off of gardening to do some shopping!

Gonna: Enjoy your busy day! A 6-mile bike ride sounds killer, but I'll work my way up to it!

Ruth: I'm jealous of you and your asparagus...it just doesn't take out here. Have a nice time cashiering at the plant sale and I hope that knee loosens up.

Cyndi: Hmmmm, a climbing spinach variety - that sounds like something DH would LOVE! I'll be checking into that when I get home. Hope you have a nice day!

Twynn: Sorry about your croup-y little one. Hope it clears up soon! Enjoy gardening time - I think it's great that your kids love fresh veggies! Keep up the good work!

Cat: Alien babies in the fridge! So that's what those are!! Hope today with your DSs is wonderful. Enjoy your day and your Mother's Day gifts from DD.

Barb: Enjoy your and Brian's scouting events today! Sounds like a busy time for you again!

Nessa: Congrats on your loss! You are doing SO wonderful. I hope your aches and pains wane soon so that you can get back to your yoga. Have a nice day!

Schmoodle: Enjoy Indiana Jones. That is definitely one that I want to see...let us know how it is. Good luck getting your cooking and cleaning and planting in!

Me: At the office this morning for a bit just getting caught up on stuff that wasn't accomplished this week. Scale was down 4 lbs since last Saturday, which is GREAT for me! Puts me 8 lbs away from onederland (again) and I'm excited to get there! Anyhow, great start for doing P1 for what feels like the millionth time. THIS is the last time!

I'm going to do some in-store and online shopping for shorts and capris for vacation, plus my workout. Then DH and I are going to bbq and watch our shows together. I'll do some general straightening and laundry tomorrow after church. Too much going on today to have to worry about it!

Well, off to do more work! Have a great Saturday!

~Kim
