How long did it take you to
feel comfortable at a gym?
Perhaps I should rephrase the question and ask "Do you have to force yourself to go to the gym?" I have just joined a week ago and even though it was a bit of a struggle on each day when I planned to go, I did go. The funny thing is I don't have to force myself to get on the treadmill at home, that has somehow, from day 1, become a part of my usual routine.
I hope the gym will follow - it's not that I am uncomfortable next to the toned bodies (I actually don't look that bad right now even though I still have lots to lose) - it's more that I am a bit on the shy side and really uncomfortable in crowds, etc.
Today is my rest day so all I did was a Pilates class (at the gym) and I am glad I went. The instructor is very good and I love that she wears a mike so everybody can hear her no matter which way she is facing or where in the room she is. I have been to too many pilates and yoga classes (in a local community centre) where there aerobics next door and through the wall you hear the instructor barking commands at her class while you are trying to breathe and relax, and the instructor is hard to hear when she is facing away from me.
Right after the Pilates class is a Zumba class and I hope to stay for it next week - of course I will be like a bull in a china shop because I don't know any of the steps but it looked like fun.
Tomorrow, I am planning to do either weights or pop in a core/ball class. I really love that the membership in my gym includes absolutely everything, including the classes.
