Hello, hello! I'm Ariel, but you can also call me by my username, Grpyh, if that's easier. I'm sixteen years old and I live in Texas...somewhere in there.
I've been on a lifestyle change for about a year now, off and on. I started at 165 a little over a year ago. 165 was the most I've ever weight, but I've been chubby my entire life. I can't remember a single moment in my life in which I haven't had a little extra baggage. Since then, I've lost about 25 pounds, though I might have lost more if I hadn't gone back to my old lifestyle so many times.
So currently, I'm down to 139--139.2, to be exact. My goal is to reach 115 by the start of the next school year. It's a big goal, but I feel like I can do it if I stick to it. (: I've also really been wanting to get my hair cut short (short short...think pixie-cut, except a bit longer and for curly hair), but I refuse to even further consider it until I'm down to my target weight--so that, coupled with the fact that I'm excited to see myself down to a normal weight for the first time in my life--is my motivation.
I don't follow any sort of diet plan--I just generally try to have at least 1200 calories a day, but hopefully no more than 1400, and I walk on the treadmill about an hour every day--thirty minutes in the morning before school (and before I take a shower!) and 30 minutes after school. I also do karate on Tuesdays and Thursdays--that's great fun. (:
Anyway, it'd be great to meet others who also have a goal of losing about 25 pounds! Or just anyone, really.
Well, according to your BMI, you are in your normal weight range for your height. You ARE in a normal weight if you are at 139 lbs. If you want to lose a little extra, (and 115 sounds slim for your height but still normal) try mixing up your workout. The thing is, don't get obsessed with the number 115 lbs. Maybe your body just doesn't want to be at that weight and when you plateau, especially if you're in a normal weight range, take it as your body being happy at that weight. You don't want to push your body to do something it doesn't want to do. Mostly be careful, it sounds like you're doing great with your diet, but maybe mix it up, try going vegetarian or cut out diary (or both! and go vegan!). That might help.
You just don't want to get super skinny... curves are great!
. . . You can do it, Chickie . . . from the sound of things you are doing all the right things so far.
Take a look around the site -- there's an active Teens Thread and I know you'd also be welcomed in the "Twenty Somethings" and "Featherweights" Forums too.
Thanks guys!
And yeah, I was rather pleased to find out that I'm actually in my normal weight range, but I guess I really don't want to be quite so close to being overweight again. (Last time I checked, I'm still almost borderline...Might have to check again. :/)
My original goal was really 125, but when I got down to 145, it seemed to me like I could have stood to lose a bit more. I guess I'll have to see--I bump it back up to 125, or keep at 115...or go with a happy medium of 120. I'll have to see how it pans out in the end, though. =o As I do take karate, I am prone to having a bit of muscle, so in all likelihood, that would be what would keep me from getting to 115, and I'm fine with that, by all means.
