Default Carbs is my enemy

Hi Everyone. I'm a new member and here to lose weight. I've never blogged before, so pardon my mistakes. I walk between 3 and 5 miles daily and haven't lost a pound. I think it's carbs. Any advise out there.

Welcome! What kind of carbs are your enemy? If you're talking about a box of cookies, I agree, but whole grain cereals and breads can be good for you. I'm not on a low carb lifestyle (notice I did NOT say diet, lol), but I think even an Atkins or South Beach follower would agree that some carbs are necessary.
If you want, why don't you write down a daily food menu you eat every day and we'll look at it? I know doing that has helped me when I've hit plateaus; the people here are great and very non-judgemental

Hi there and . . .

When you say carbs are your enemy; you probably mean the highly processed white stuff like potatoes, rice, pasta, and the many varieties of things made with overly processed white flour. Those things are definitely the "enemy".

Let's not forget though that all those really healthy fruits and vegetables that most people do not eat nearly enough of are also "Carbs". Somehow, I doubt that you (or too many other people) are actually eating too much spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, or assorted salad greens.

You should hve a good look around the boards and take your time reading about the many popular diet plans in Diet Central. Sure you will find one that suits you to a "t".

I hear you! Despite the food pyramid's insistence that everyone should eat shedloads of bread/pasta/rice etc, carbohydrates are really NOT the most helpful of foodgroups!

I've lost 30lb since January, through cutting out flour, sugar, rice and starchy vegetables (carrots, potatoes, corn) and most fruit (except berries and melons). I'm not eating NO carbs - but I am being very careful which carbs I have, and limiting the quantities - so mostly I get my carbs in green leafy veggies, fresh berries, nuts, seeds. Really, stuff like pizza and coke was making me feel like crap - I feel SO much better now.

As to whether you're making progress - you mention scales, but are you also taking measurements? Because it sounds like you're getting a fair bit of exercise, so you may well be building muscle at the same time as burning fat, which won't show your progress realistically on the scale. Just a thought.

I keep my carbs at 50% but I also have to be very careful about which ones I consume. Plus I don't want to end up insulin resistent so I try to be good to my body with healthy carbs. I always make sure that if I do have a choice I choose a protein too. Hop on fitday and track a couple of days, I was shocked with my carb loading and my lack of protein. Once I adjusted, the weight came off.
