Red face We smoked our last cig half hour ago

Hi, everyone, My name is Misty and I made the decission today to change my life forever. I have been saying it for a while now but never really setting the date or saying now is the time, just telling myself soon. So I told my husband my plan to quit smoking and he joined me and we smoked our last cig together a half hour ago. We have no more here so no cheating tonight. I need to loose almost 100 pounds so I have a long road ahead of me. I am pretty healthy and can still do most things. I never really noticed how big I had gotten untill I was looking at a pic of my husband and me and could not get over how unbelivable my husband looked which in turn made me really take a look at myself. I really don't like what I see, it doesn't match how I feel. I kept fooling myself untill a dr visit where I had to step on a scale. OUCH!!! So now I am here, I don't know what plan I am gonna try or how I am gonna do it I just know I am. If anyone knows or has a good idea let me know, I definatly have to work around my two daughters who are with me all the time. I am a stay at home mom so I don't get out much. I look forward to making all kind of new friends. Any advice on what to expect from my husband on this journey. He is a very supportive man but I am sure this is going to affect him too.

Hi MISTY . . . . . . you will find lots and lots of support around here. We've all got our for you, Chickie, as you travel down the long, and sometimes bumpy, road to better health and fitness.

There are lots of special groups on this big site -- have a look in the Diet Central area and you'll find special forums for most of the major plans out there and most contain pretty complete information about how they work.

You are really going to need to be strong as you undertake the double whammy routine for both weight loss and smoking cessation. Best of Luck.

Lightbulb Good luck

I wish you the best of luck! I'm also on the road to a healthier life! Quitting smoking can be hard!

Just stick to it and remember you can do it! Encourage your husband. And share your thoughts and feelings to each other. Also keep a food and ciggarette journal...lol I know the ciggarette journal sounds weird. Write down your thoughts and how your feeling every time you get a craving. and write down one postive thing about quitting smoking and one negative thing about wht smoking does to you. itll distract you from going to get a ciggerette, and itll remind you of WHY your quitting in the first place! GOOD LUCK

Good luck! I know from experience that both can be hard...I quit smoking two-and-a-half years ago and lost nearly 90 pounds in the past year and a half. It's a lot of hard work but it's definitely worth it (it gets easier over time)! Just keep at it and don't give up...I know you can do it!

Hello and welcome! I want to congratulate you on quitting smoking (and from the sound of it, doing it cold turkey!). I have been a smoker for about 10 years and I really want to quit. However, my boyfriend says he wants to do it with me, so I am stuck waiting on him; hopefully I too will become an ex-smoker within the next month. I have tried to quit smoking a few times before and, just like trying to lose weight, have never had any success. So I wish you the best of luck in both your journeys!

Default You Can Do It!

good luck misty! i'm an ex-smoker and my husband followed me a few years later. the first week is the hardest in my opinion. if you can get through that you can make it the rest of the way. just know and let others know you will be quite cranky, perhaps a bit unpredictable even for a few weeks. plead for their understanding and give yourself understanding too. get support from folks here. you are battling a major, major addiction. also, you can replace cigaretts with exercise of some sort. that will help you keep from eating. i know that sounds crazy but even something small will help redirect you when you are wanting a cigarette. i am starting exercise/weight loss today and i'm a major stress/emotional eater. i've decided to do push ups against the wall when i'm stressed and want to eat. this week will be hard for me too. i'll be thinking of you and wishing you well.

Congrats on quiting! I quit about a year ago and started dieting a couple months later. I started smoking again to stop the snacking. Not the best idea, but I'd like to quit sometime soon. Just scared to start the snacking again.
