Question Heart rate monitor & calorie counter for Swimming

Hello everyone

I am basically only able to exercise in the pool, so I'm looking for a heart rate monitor that will count how many calories I burn during aquafit classes in the water.

I'm not sure if this product even exists. I've checked Ebay & Amazon, and some monitors say the watch is water resistant up to 30 or 50 meters, but does that mean the chest strap is as well?

I'm looking for something that does have a chest strap, I really don't want to have to press on the watch with 2 fingers and wait for a reading. I want something I can put on and forget about until the end of the workout.

Any suggestions at all would really help. Thanks very much.

Typically, the chest strap on HRMs are waterproof, while the watches are often water resistant (meaning swimming should be fine, as long as you don't dive deep).

I've swum with a HRM for years - a $30 cheapie from Walmart, actually, and it works just dandy. The only limitations are that the elastic part of the chest band is susceptible to chlorine, the same way swimsuits are - rinse it out carefully after each use, and be prepared to replace it once every year or so (depending on how often you swim and how long it's in the chlorine). Replacement elastic straps are usually only $5-15.

Enjoy the swim!
