Hi!
I am so happy that I found this site. It is great to see all these people who are in the same boat as me, working on bringing their weight under their control. I've been chunky my whole life, but I really ballooned out during college. I was away from home for the first time and I really let myself go. I have always loved eating, and hated exercise, and as I am fairly antisocial I spent a great deal of time in my room eating and watching old movies. During those years my parents, especially my Dad expressed concern for me, and I gave some rather half-hearted attempts to control my weight, but my heart just wasn't in it, and all my diets fizzles out. One day in October I jumped up on the scale while brushing my teeth and received a terrible shock. 220 lbs! It wasn't possible. I weighed as much as my Dad! Anyways, that is when I finally decided that something had to be done.
The first thing I did was get a pedometer and start walking. I walked 10,000 steps (around 5 mi) a day for two months, and then stepped it up to 12,000, which is where I am now. For dieting, I'm doing my own special low-carb diet. Basically I've just cut out almost all carbs, usually eating less than 50 a day. I've been losing around 1.5lbs. a week, and I feel so much better. I've dropped from a size 18W to a 16M, I have so much more energy, it is great. My short-term goal was to lose 35lbs by July 1st, and now I only have 10lbs more to go!
