I have an office party coming up in 1 week. Just came to know about it. I thought it would be a perfect ooportunity for me to set myself a mini-goal of 5 lbs in 1 week.
I am planning to double my excercise.
The only thing I am worried about is that my husband & daughter wants me to cook Mutton Biryani over the weekend. It would be hard to resist and will be filled with calories One meal of mutton biryani, egg curry and chicken fry will not hurt, will it
what about adjusting the recipe a little to reduce calories? Would you mind posting the recipe so that we can suggest how to make it low-calorie?
Good luck. But really, since it is an office party, are your co-workers not already weeing you every day? They would probably not notice your weight loss, because of seeing you all the time.
How's the sodium level in that dish? That could do you in faster than a few extra calories . . . drink plenty of water and go lightly on the refined carbs.
I work from home. It has been 7 months since I saw my co-workers. I am new to the whole dieting thing. What do you think would be a realistic goal for 1 week?
umm five pounds is a lot for you to lose in one week. Most people suggest 1% a week so you would be looking at a healthy amount of 1.5 a week about. If you need to lose the weight a low carb diet always seems to make me drop weight fast but the problem is if you don't stick to it you'll gain it back plus some.
Good luck!

double up on exercise may not help, with start of new exercise or increase of exercise you may experience temporary water retention which of course will show weight gain not loss!

I'm really not sure if you should have ANY weight loss goals for a weeks time. I mean, you want to lose the weight for a week and then what? What about the week after? And the week after that? I think you may need to look a bit further down the road, no? It takes time to put new and lasting good healthy habits in place.

Short-term goals are often a nice way keep yourself on track. But, I agree with the others - a weight loss goal for a week isn't wise.
How about a diet and exercise goal for the week. Keep your eating in POP and boost your exercise by xx amount. Don't worry about what the scale shows. When I exercise intensely, my weight often goes up initially. My muscles retain more water as they repair themselves.
Good luck! Let us know what you decide and how you do
Just a thought--but unless they're going to make you hop on a scale when you arrive, no one is going to *know* you've lost five pounds, so maybe rather than focusing on how to LOSE five pounds, you could look into starting on the right path toward good, healthy, longer-term goals for your weight loss and THEN spend the energy this week looking into "slimming clothes" and styles that would be the most figure-flattering, for the party.
"How To Look Good Naked" is a show that covers lots of tricks and tips for looking your best in and out of your clothes, no matter what your weight may be. Buying a better-fitting bra, wearing clothes with the waistline at the right place for your figure, choosing colors and patterns that flatter your assets and hide your "problem areas," those types of things.
A lot of excellent suggestions here, and without wanting to be negative, I have to agree that expecting to lose 5lb in one week really isn't very useful or realistic. Aim for 1 - 2lb per week, steadily, and in a year that's 50lb or more gone forever.
Having said that, with Atkins people do often shift a fair bit more than 2lb in the first week - although most of it will be water weight - as your body adjusts to burning stored fat rather than burning dietary carbs. (I'm Low Carbing myself, and finding it an enjoyable and successful weight loss plan so far.)
Whichever plan you decide to follow, make sure you drink a lot of water (as water retention will make you seem bigger) and that you take multivitamins/other sensible supplements. And exercise is always a good idea, but it won't guarantee instant weightloss either.
DEFINITELY agree that if this is only a week away, your time might be most constructively spent in thinking carefully about your wardrobe.
...but you know, if you don't see your co-workers regularly, this could be an AWESOME marker for starting your weight loss plan! You could weigh yourself, take your measurements and get some photos taken of yourself at this event, looking as fine as you can right now, and then work out how much you can have lost by the next event (assuming that you lose 1 - 2lb per week - you can try to lose more, but if you set yourself ACHIEVABLE goals you're much more likely to stay positive, feel successful and thus keep on track, whereas setting yourself unachievable goals can lead to feelings of failure and discouragement, even when you're actually succeeding in losing weight!). And then how much you can have lost by the NEXT event, and so forth. Could be an awesome way of setting yourself mini-goals, and wowing your co-workers!
