Default New to 3FC, old hand at weight loss...and weight gain!

Hi all, I'm Pandora from Chicago. I'm in my 55's prediabetic, and trying once more to lose and keep off the weight.

Personally I am a fabulous weight loser, but never quite reach my goal and stay at whatever is my bottom for about 15 minutes before starting the trek upwards. This time my goal is to lose slowly (my doctor is recommending 2 lbs a month) but actually maintain! I have a closet full of clothes in a variety of sizes (actually three closets, since I move the things that don't fit elsewhere. (One of the advantages of being an empty nester, the kids closets are filled with my clothes in sizes too small, and hopefully eventually in sizes that are too big.

Two years ago I lost 83 lbs. Two weeks ago I had gained it all back, plus two.

I look forward to getting and giving support in this battle. I'm feeling a little now or never at the moment!

Hi Pandora

You absolutely CAN do this. And you can keep it off! There are a few areas that might appeal to you. There's the 50+ area and the Dieting with Obstacles section for starters. Make sure you have a look around and post where you're comfortable! Are you planning on following a specific program?

Best of success!

Hi, I can relate to your problem. I have been on so many diets I could write my own diet book. I finally decided that this was just crazy and started eating healthy foods and small portions. It's finally clicked. I am at goal now and intend to stay here.

I post on the 50+ group, The Golden Girls. Lots of really great supportive people there that understand our problem with losing weight.

I hear you about the closets full of different size clothing. I spent the day sorting through my closets and getting rid of all of the clothes that don't fit. I don't want to use them as a crutch any longer. Keeping them was just a sign that I expected to fail.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm not doing any specific program. I've been successful on Atkins in the past, but my doctor says no to that. What works really best for me in losing is just portion control and exercise. I get a real high once I start losing and then for a long time can just eat healthily. Until I hit a long plateau...and then start to lose momentum.

I'm glad to be here, will check out the other forums suggested as well.

Hi PANDORA . . . wave: . . . I see you've already been directed to a couple of places that might be right up you alley . . . I'm the Mod in both the Age 50+ forum and the Diabetes Forum and we'd love to see you in both or either of those places.

You are definitely on the right track with portion control and exercise but be sure to keep your carb intake spread as evenly as you can over the day as well.

If you want to take a look at a couple of plans that are pretty good for controlling blood sugar take a look at Sugar Busters and the later phases of South Beach . . . both have their own forums . . . I tend to think of them as 'controlled, or good carb, plans.

Hope to see you around . . . keep things moving and shaking, Chickie.
