Default A little red in the face. Ok, a LOT!

Hi everyone,
Does anyone else out there get really red-faced when they exercise? Every time I run or do step my face turns BRIGHT red! I don't see many other red faces as I look around at most of the people in class/at the gym.
Also, does anyone know why this happens?

Yes mine does too and I tend to sweat a lot.

Don't worry about the red face, it just means you are working hard...but do try and make sure you are drinking plenty of water and perhaps some protel (sp?) light.

Not only does my face get very red when I run, I get a faint red rash on my arms that itches.

My face also turns beet red, and this tendency runs in my family. You're right about not seeing many red faces when you look around. I would like to say that it has to do with having fair skin, etc. but I have a naturally deep, olive-toned complexion, so who knows! I'll even admit this: when I work out at the gym and know there might be hot guys there, I'll wear makeup (foundation) so that it helps conceal how flushed i become. Strangers who see my bright red face have actually stopped me to ask if I was okay, so I don't want to cause any alarm!

I've had gym staff tell me I'm working too hard and to check my heart rate. My heart rate is FINE, I'm just Italian and my face just gets RED. Guh. And I've been getting itchy bumpy upper arms as well...but it doesn't bother me until I exercise. Weird.

Anyway, I look HOT when I'm not red-faced and sweaty, so it's worth it!

Depending on what I am doing and for how long I have done it, YES! I hate that too!

I can relate, I get very red when I exercise. I am very fair skinned (although I know it can affect also people with darker complexion) and it always bothered me. When I was 16 or so, I played basketball and my face was always beet-red and I was usually the only to look like that.

Fast forward some 25 years. I developed rosacea and even though I am very fortunate that my rosacea is quite dormant, I can also get very red in the face just because sun is shining on me. This and the fact that now that I am 49 I tend to sweat a lot when I exercise sealed my decision to buy a treadmill to exercise at home. I may still have to join a gym to for weight resistance etc. but I think I will stick to cardio at the privacy of my own home.

Oh, my gosh, I am so glad to see I'm not the only one! My head looks like a tomato with hair after my runs!
Even when I was in my 20s and fit and slim and running every day, I'd get people stopping me to say, "Are you okay!?!?"
I thought it was just because I'm fair, too. I'm sorry you darker skinned girls get it, too. To think I've always envied you!

Tomato, I've just developed rosacea, too. I'm 43, and I'm falling apart. Why do I still think I'm 20?

Thanks for posting this, Julie. I no longer feel such a complete freak. I wish you all went to my gym. I will think of you all after my next run.

I get red in the face - but I think it may be due to the fact that I have rosacea. When I'm not exercising - I have no signs of rosacea on my face. Perhaps because the blood vessels are closer to the surface it causes my face to flush more...

Who knows... I won't let at little blush stop me

Ditto for me. I also have rosacea but the only times I'm affected are when I exercise, particularly in the heat. My face gets VERY red.

Wow! I didn't realize so many others had the same experience. I too have had people stop and ask if I'm okay or really stare at me. I don't have rosacea, but my skin is very thin...you can see veins all over me. I was in a bathroom at a bar wearing a very low cut shirt (yeah...40 pounds ago) and a girl asked me what was wrong with my chest. Her friend hit her and said, "Those are veins stupid!" Oh, lord, was I embarrassed!!!

Same here, especially if I'm doing hi-intensity intervals or something like that. I was on the elliptical the other day doing 2-min intervals and the guy next to me kept shooting sideways glances at me. I couldn't tell if it was because I was beet red or because I was sweating like a horse. Or both!

I don't let it bother me now, although it used ot make me very self conscious.

Probably because you're a babe.

I think we could start a club. Although I still don't know why I'm the only one at my gym who gets red in the face. I mean, it seems like there must be a bazillion of us out there!

lol...I am so washed out, but I am really dark complected...wait that makes no sense try again...I am olive skinned but really pale, but look like I shouldnt be pale if that makes any sense. People always think I must tan easily but I dont. I always "look tired"

Anyway, I get fairly red, but with my olive skin the red is quite muted...it just takes out the yellow in my skin. I look best RIGHT after a good run. I look like I have that tan they always talk about...with maybe a slight sunburn.

Thank you guys for this thread
I thought only I have this problem. I don't sweat gracefully
I mean, after any amount of strain my face goes tomato

a month ago I was hiking with my class (college class, we had to go to see some bats in a cave) and after some 45 minutes I felt like I'm having a heart attack, and , of course, my face was blood red
worst thing was, one girl that considers herself one of my closer friends started to laugh and point at me

safe to say, I don't like that girl very much
