Exclamation Keep or Ditch?

Hey girls! I need some advice again (don't I always?lol) My hubby isn't much help with this area so I figured I'd talk to my girls...lol

I started seeing this really awesome personal trainer and shes great... wonderful gym equipment in her home and she gives a great eating plan (shes also a nutritionist) and is very motivating. She kinda got down on me the other day, saying I was too obsessed with working out (I'm following her guids exactly and just e-mailed her with a couple questions so I wasnt sure where that was coming from). I have the start of my own home gym in my house so I could work out here as well, however shes pushing that I need to work with her 2 to three times a week. Her costs are $400 for 10 sessions and I am kinda scared since thats only 3 weeks worth at 3 times a week. I'm basicly working to support my health endevours, but that cost is really high. I could afford to put together a killer home gym in 4 months for that kinda money.

Since I have the know how now, and am willing to try and do it on my own (or just get a gym membership in the mean time) and I am sure there are online trainers that are just as good as her with out that price tag... do you guys think I should keep with her and spend the money, or look around for someone or something else thats not so outragously expensive? I have good motivation and dont need help with being "pushed" to do a workout. any thoughts?

a personal trainers goal should be to teach you to do it yourself and only need them every few weeks or months for a check in and an upgrade. that's what my trainer told me... she wants me to be independent of her...

It's really your call...The only thing that sounds a little fishy to me is that she insists that you see HER 3x a week ie she isn't flexible with her schedule... you can't see her once a week if you want to? I would say maybe try and see if you can talk to her and see her once a week and then experiment with local gym classes...I know several gyms offer small classes where you work with weights and basically get a personal trainer type workout for a smaller price plus the motivation of having people around you.

I would not recommend commiting to a long term plan of working out alone. Even if your motivation is good now...it's really hard to push yourself to work out on the days when you are on the edge..theres nothing like having commited to being somewhere or prepaying for something to get you to move on days you dont want to. I remember Bob the trainer on the biggest loser said that even he (and many other trainers) has a trainer for this reason. Even trainers need trainers to push them.

Honestly, if you know what you're doing and don't need the motivation to work out on your own....what exactly is she giving you at this point for that kind of money? I agree, if you put that money towards buying equipment at home, you'd have a great home gym. And you'd probably benefit more from it in the long run, it would be free to workout after you bought the equipment, while working out with her would be a never-ending 400 dollar a month investment, 4800 a year, if you kept that up for say 5 years...that is 24,000 dollars. You could buy a new car for that or put a down payment on a house....

If you don't want to go completely without a trainer and she's unwilling to see you less often, you might want to look for someone else, if thats feasable for you?

I agree with the above posters. You've learned what you need right now. USe the money to help by your equipment and whatnot. Trainers are to help you learn how to life this lifestyle on your own. Go back for a bit after a few months to upgrade , but once you are familiar with the things you need to work on, it seems almost a waste of money.

This trainers seems to want your money, than to help you reach your fitness goals....

Thanks you guys... I kinda thought the same as you guys. The trouble is If I pay monthly for a gym membership, I'd feel weired about using their gym over the one I just bought, or using mine when I have the membership. ya know? There is another training that is suppose to be great in my area but you gotta have a gym membership with the gym she works out of thats $50 a month... then shes $60 and meets with you once ever 3 weeks. So frustrating!!! Do you guys know of any good online trainers? Ones that work with you over the internet to help you?

I don't know about online trainers Tiffy, but maybe try working your current program alone a couple of months then consult a personal trainer again. My best friend is a former professional runner and the guy I live with is a body builder and rugby player, and both of them don't rate personal trainers highly. I'd recommend really studying the subject of training and then you can judge for yourself.
