Default A true princess under this!

Hi, I'm Julie. I'm seventeen years old and slightly overweight. I've begun a workout program of cardio every other day and I've decided to cut out sugary foods(the majority, I still sneak in a small dessert!) I'm really hoping to be able to get a cute dress by prom which is in two months. Whoooott. Anyways, I'm basically wondering what programs work the best, are there any good food - calorie counter websites and what are you guys all doing? Any words of encouragment?

Hi Julie!

Sounds like you've got a good thing going so far with the exercise There are few sites that people enjoy using around here. Fitday.com & Mydailyplate.com are two of them. If you like to count calories, you should check out the Calorie Counters area under Diet Central. I bet they can give you some information.

Best of success!!!

hi Julie! Your plan of cardio and "cutting back" sounds smart -- you want to be healthy and FEEL GOOD as well as looking fabulous. You can look around the various forums and find lots of support and advice for whatever activities you are doing. Best of luck with creating an even better you! (And do post a photo of that cute dress!)

Welcome! I think you'll be fine, but since you are pretty young, may I advise getting your dr's blessing on whatever weightloss method you choose? He/she may help you pick out foods to keep eating or not eating depending on your age/vitamin needs. You need lots of calcium and stuff (like my technical term?) because you are a teenage girl. Also, if you decide to go with Weight Watchers (My favorite) you'll have to have a dr.'s note to join. Good luck, and I can't wait to see that awesome prom dress!!!

Hi Julie!
There are loads of plans you could follow.
I'm doing calorie counting because it fits in with my life perfectly at the moment. I'm 19 and busy with Uni work (no doubt you're also busy with school) so calorie counting allows me to eat almost anything (in controlled portions, of course!) and lose weight.
Perhaps you could start with calorie counting and see how you go?? Fitday and mydailyplate, as Faerie mentioned, are very helpful tools.
Exercise is also very helpful so good on you for getting into it. I didn't exercise at first I just dieted but now I work out I am seeing better results.
Good luck!
