I'm 31, 5'8", and unfortunately, over 200 pounds. I got an extreme wake up call from my Type 1 Diabetes doctor, who had labeled me obese. I have committed to an exercise program (still developing but there nonetheless) of cardio, kickboxing, yoga, tai chi and walking. I'd give anything to lose at least 100 pounds, and that I know I'll do.
If there are any Diabetics in here, that would help a lot, as I could use some support from them, too... glad to be here!
As Blz said, there's a Diabetes area that might interest you. There's also the 100lb club, a friendly active group of people who are working on lose about 100lbs or more! There's the 30-something's if you'd prefer to speak to people closer to your age. But, have a look around & post where you're comfortable!
Thank you so much for your warmth. It's very rare to find a message board where people are this kind. I'll check out all the boards you suggested. Thanks again!
I'm new to the board, but welcome! One of my children is type 1 diabetic. He's 19 now, but was 7 when he was diagnosed. I know it's hard, but thankfuly he takes good care of himself, which he learned to do from a young age. He checks his blood 5 times a day at least, eats right (no thanks to me, I must say), keeps his doctor appointments. I remember when he was diagnosed that one of his doctors told me that a diabetic in good control is more healthy than most people. So, stay strong and think positive!
I'm a long-time Type II as are the majority of our regulars (not suprising since 90% of all diabetics are type II) -- but we do have a few Type I's floating around 3FC too.
Hi, I'm also type 2 diag at age 36, never took it seriously.. now at age 49, I panicked and started to 'change' everything all at once and too fast. I tried to 'fix' myself overnight... I know now I need to take it slowly, no starving myself etc. just move thru everyday with a good plan to be healthy. Good Luck...
March 17 fast b/s was 240, This morning 118...
Hi there... I'm a type 1 diabetic, too! So, of course, I know all about the struggles of diabetes and weight loss. For me, it was really hard to get started on losing weight, and what really bugs me is low blood sugar, because in those circumstances, you often don't have a choice but to force sugary crap down your throat, and then you just feel it's not "fair" and that those calories shouldn't really "count" because they were a medical necessity! It's been difficult to get my blood sugars exactly right while working out (mostly to prevent post-workout lows... slamming a can of Coke after a hardcore workout just feels so wrong - and if your sugar is high, working out can make it even higher - bah!)
Anyway, if you need support or advice or anything, feel free to PM me any time - and if it's any consolation, despite the annoyances diabetes can pose, I still lost 50 pounds and have successfully maintained for around 3 months now, hopefully never to go back.
