Default I have a consultation for lapband

in April.

What to expect?

I have been overweight more than 30 years .... have lost weight but gained all back.. etc ... and I'm just fed up .. tired of struggling so I am looking into lapband surgery to see if it is right. I am doing research and I feel that I can do the program ...reading message boards, lapband blogs, lapband.com, etc...

I just want to be thin for once!!!!!! I want to experience life as a thin person, have been fat since age 11 and i'm 41 now!!!

BTW my stats are incorrect, it's way up to 232
It has been a long time since I posted here.

Thank you!

My consultation is in early April. I'm keeping this private from everybody right now just my mom knows that I am considering it.

What I am wanting to know? What happens at the consultation? What kind of questions will they ask? Will I need to share the entire 30 years of being overweight, struggles, etc... I have been on weight watchers, Jenny Craig, South Beach, on my own, starving myself (never did that one again) ....

My parents were pretty mean to me when I was a kid with my weight, they bascially tried to starve me ... wouldn't let me eat because I was overweight, they wanted me to lose, but it only made me rebel even more and eat more. When I would ask for something to eat because I was hungry, they would say NO! not even for an apple or carrot, or something like that

It hurt because I felt that my parents couldn't accept me for me. Yes they were and still somewhat overweight.

I read on lapband.com somewhere, that you can puree chicken. It sounds gross.. or does it actually taste good? LOL I do love chicken breasts, I was wondering if I could cook it the way I usually do .. then puree it?? HMMM

In 2003/2004 I was doing really good on South Beach Diet and lost a good amount of weight .... until mid 2004 when things in my life started to go bad, such as a loss of relationship, then met another guy, got pregnant , lost it.. then my hours got changed to a later shift, which resulted in my lost free time at home. U know losing weight takes time and planning, and I had early shift and I had alot of free time and I loved it because I took my time to plan, work out etc.. that change of shift has thrown my routinue way off and it has been 3 years now and I still have not established a routine in my life
Then my supervisor debilaterly sabogoated my weight loss .... she claimed that I inspired her to lose weight. She likes to compete and likes to see people fail. Also in 2006 I was sick for a few months with back pain, unable to move much, etc until it was finally diagnosed and under control. It was hard to plan when you were partically out of commission.

So I just decided to see about lapband... and that I think i can do the program ... sticking to the plan as recommended for lapbanders......

For once, I want to be thin and experience life as a thin person, is that too much to ask?? LOL ... also I would love to be smaller by the time I move cross country later this year or in 2009.

Thanks for your time, the welcome and any future advice/comments!! Thanks!

Is it a 1:1 consultation with the surgeon or is it a consultation/mini seminar. The first thing my surgeon wanted us to do was sit in his seminar... there he told us everything about Gastric Bypass and Lapband... its there were we asked questions. He would not consider having a 1:1 consult until we sat in the seminar, went to a lap band support group meeting and had all our blood work done.... also he wanted us to write down every diet I had ever been on...since I was 6 years old LOL. If its a 1:1 with your surgeon, then yes... sit down and wright your heart out...don't forget to include dates you were on these diets and how long you were on each one... also include diet pills, if you tried any... And any doctor supervised diets. It took me about a week to remember every diet I had ever been on and how many gyms I joined etc.

You'll only need to eat soft / pureed foods for about 1 - 2 weeks, so don't go crazy thinking you won't be able to eat like before. This is during the healing stage after surgery. And yes, you'll be able to eat just like before. Don't let this worry you... you will be sent to a nutritionalist and he/she will give you guidelines (so will the hospital) I've found that the nutritionalist guidelines were NOT what my doctor wanted me to follow... he wanted me to follow his and the hospital's guidelines... go figure.

Just take it one step at a time...if you think to much ahead it will drive you bonkers.
