Default Boo alcohol!!

Okay, I realise this might sound typical coming from an Irish person to bring up the subject of alcohol, but what with Paddy's Day coming up, I know a session is just around the corner!

Anybody else find that after they come in from a night out they just raid the fridge? Is alcohol an appetite increaser? I never seem to care what I eat after a few drinks! Not to mention the alcohol itself is crammed with empty calories (although I always try to use a low cal mixer)

Also, the day after, i'll always give in to the cravings for junk I have.....

aaaahh, and you can't get away from it over here!!!

Heh, this post reminds me- last weekend I had 2 long island iced teas, later looked them up on dailyplate and they were 300 CALORIES EACH!!! I don't like drinking much so I just avoid it. Stupid empty useless calories that could be better spent on ice cream!

Haha... yeah, I know what you mean. I ALWAYS have a hard time the next day after drinking with raiding the fridge. My husband and I usually have a few drinks on saturday nights after a hard week (sometimes a few more than a few..lol) and it doesnt matter if I drink one drink the night before or 10. I end up not just feeling crappy, but I can't get enough food to make me feel full! I think it might have something to do with the toxins (alcohol is a toxin) and it making your brain think your hungry when your not.

My hubby is Irish and I am German, so I'm sure St. Pattys day will do us both in... lol. I just don't plan on going shopping so theres no junk in the house the day after there for I wont be able to binge!

There are ways to avoid the problems of "not caring" that comes with alcohol. First, drink less alcohol! By that, I mean, in between alcoholic drinks have a full glass of something non-alcoholic. (Water is a good one, and it'll help keep you from getting a huge hangover the next morning.)

The next morning you can plan for ahead of time. Have something fixed & ready to eat (or ready to heat) so that you'll be less tempted to go out for junk.

I'm terrible for my drinking as I'm at Uni and go out all the time but I find alcohol makes me less inclined to eat. My friends all go get their kebabs and pizza at like 4AM but I always feel too ill to eat I think it's because booze always makes me feel full in a way.
And the next day I often feel so hungover I can barely eat a sandwich so I don't feel too bad about the drinking the night before I guess it's just different for everyone?!
To lose weight quicker I should probably give up the drink but I'm still losing and only have a year and a half of Uni left so I plan on enjoying it!
I don't know how to beat your junk cravings, maybe keep some low calorie snacks on hand for after a heavy night out? And only drink spirits with diet mixers as they have less calories.

I fall into the same trap! I've successfully cut back on drinking-but St. Paddy's is one of my favorite holidays-and I plan to celebrate it! I am going to try to not drink too much-or eat afterward either!

YEAH BOO ALCOHOL!!!! i have to weigh in once a week, and it doesnt matter if i have one jack on the rocks with a water chaser or a half a dozen it always slows my weight loss, now i pick and choose the weekends that i'm drinking never more than once a month. for me it just isnt worth it, as my body seems to be incapable of metabolizing alcohol.

I am the SAME way. I always eat that night after drinking and the next day I am SO HUNGRY..I just eat everything. I especially crave carbs.

I've tried to slow down on my alcohol consumption. I used to drink about 6 beers every weekend (like on a saturday or sunday) but have stopped that. I haven't had a beer since superbowl ..but wine, thats a different story.

With baseball season starting (my fav sport) I am going to find it hard to stay away from the beer again...summer makes me wanna drink!

Last night my best friend and i went out for absolutely no frickin' reason and got PLOWED. the booze actually would have fit into my calories for the day, however, we ended up at a diner eating a broccoli and cheese omelete, hash browns, and CHOCOLATE FRICKIN' CAKE. what a disaster! it's the first time i've gone off plan in about a month and a half though. i'm not stressed out about it, but it was just pretty ironic to see your post this morning after a night like that!!!

I had three drinks last night... with LOTS of 3 olives raspberry vodka... and pomegranate mix... and a splash of seltzer... mmmm... so good. I haven't been drinking much this year, since I started my new "healthy life style".
I then proceeded to graze my way through the kitchen. Luckily at this point, most of what I have in the house is at least nutritous.
But, yeah, I get the munchies when I drink - then my friends and I like to do the 2am breakfast if we've been drinking... then if anyone is hung over the next morning, it is off to the diner for greasy eggs and bacon... mmmm...
I was reading up about booze last week, and I was reading some pretty scary stuff about how it depletes your body of all kinds of vitamins, etc.

Ex:
"Alcoholic beverages contribute to malnutrition by replacing foods needed for essential nutrients and by interfering with absorption, storage or metabolism of the essential nutrients. Ethanol may suppress appetite and consumption of food. In some individuals, however, AB's trigger excessive eating instead. Food choices follow an addictive pattern, with nutrient deficiencies based on poor food choices. Bowel distension and diarrhea are common GIT effects and are correlated with increased brain disturbances. The increased absorption of undigested proteins sets the stage for all the food "allergic" diseases. "
From: http://alphanutrition.com/alcohol/alcoholneg.htm

OOo... This was the good one I read: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson11.htm

I know many of us are not body building - but still, that article was sort of an eye opener for me - I have been drinking pretty steadily for the last 8 years - most weekends with friends, wine after a long day of work, etc. It sort of helped me understand why I can't drink very often when I am trying to lose weight.

But all bets are off this weekend = I am going to Boston! Whoo hoo!

Alcohol is a problem for me as it does use up so many kcals, quite quickly on a night out.
I still to vodka/whiskey and diet soda.
Or I also find that Magners have brought out their great Irish cider in a low kcal version! woot, not that any clubs and bars have it
The shot of vodka is about 100kcals. I do find it lowers my inhibitions on the night, deepfried chips(chunky fries) kebab meat.
The day after isnt so bad and I try to rehydrate myself so I dont tend to eat so much.

I think of alcohol as the anti-diet trifecta: its empty calories, it slows your metabolism (so I've read anyway), and at least for me, I get huge cravings for greasy fatty food that night and the day afterwards. I do let myself go out with friends for a drink occasionally (maybe once a month or so) but I try to really plan well for it, the whole day I drink plenty of water and try and eat really low cal stuff to leave me calorie room for the number of drinks I've decided to allow myself (no more than 4, usually 2). And as for the grease cravings...sometimes I win, sometimes they do. I guess so long as I'm not doing it every week its not going to hurt me too much to have the occasional burger or chips.

I think drinking got me to my high weight actually, when I was 21, 22 I was at the bar more nights than not hanging out with the bartender cos I had a thing for him (I have such a weakness for the long-haired rocker guys and he was one for sure) and making new friends with the other regulars since I didn't know a whole lot of people in my city. I don't really regret it as I did make a lot of good friends (including mr. bartender) and I had a lot of fun, but I wish I'd been more aware of how many calories I was taking in, I look back at how many drinks I would have (I could hold my liquor back then with the best of them!), I probably would drink 700-800 calories a given night there, not including the late night stops at whataburger for breakfast taquitos...I'm actually surprised I didn't gain more, sheesh!

On my diet plan I give my self on day a week to cheat (not the whole day but one good meal)...so I usually save that for Sunday....since I mostly go out on Saturday nights....that way I dont feel to guilty about My yummy IHOP breakfast feast!!!....nothing makes me hangover better like IHOP coffee and Quick 2 egg breakfast...

I ether drink sugar free red bull and Vodka (if the bar has it)....about 107 cal
or Vodka cranberry ...about 145 to 162 depending on how big the glass is...
