Red face Wishy-washy me

I'm back again. I can't remember how many times I've rejoined but I joined
again last night because my clothes were getting tight again after yet another failed lowcarb diet attempt. I just wish I could just get off this
merry-go-round! I do for a while then I get impatient and switch to a
low carb plan and lose like 5-6 pounds in 2 weeks but give up and binge on
all the foods I can't have and then some! and am back to square one.

Is there any advice that you guys could give me? has anyone been in this
situation before and come out of it? I want to just follow the flex plan and
lose this 50 pounds but it seems like it's taking forever and I just want it
gone.
I don't even have the right foods in the house right now. I have all bacon and eggs and high fat foods. I have to go to the supermarket tonight and
get some.....bread!! I can't wait to have my first mouthfull of kashi and 1%milk! funny, I never thought I would be like this but I'm sick of the fat but
I like the fast weight lose it gives. I feel like this!!

What's more important? Losing fast for a few or losing it all forever?

If low carb does not work for you, then it doesn't work for you. This is all about finding the permanent changes that will help you live the life you want to live forever. Maybe a better approach would be to stop the focus on the scale. Instead, focus on a small change that will help you live healthier. (Such as one of the 8 Healthy Guidelines.)

This is going to sound blunt. Drop the idea that this is going to be quick. It's not. And thinking that it will be will only sabotage you. (Hasn't it already?)

Regardless of what plan you choose to follow it's never going to end. These changes have to be forever. When we fall down, we get right back up and continue. The idea is that when we reach goal weight, we will have picked up all these wonderful habits that will help us keep the weight off for the rest of our lives.

Know this: YOU CAN DO THIS! One step at a time, one pound at a time, you can take off the weight and you can (more importantly) keep it off. It'll take commitment more than anything.

Best of success! We're all routing for you! Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.

Faerie is 212 % right! You didn't gain it over night, and you surely can't lose it over night! Slow and steady! I keep yelling that I am the turtle!

You have to make lifestlye changes that you can stick with forever. If you can't do without bread and potatoes, then don't go low carb! I could never do it. It's why I like WW... You can eat ANYTHING... but you have to learn to practice moderation. And it doesn't happen over night, either. Little steps at a time. Just focus on changing one thing to start - like switching from white bread to whole wheat bread.

I have been working on my lifestyle changes since December of 2001. At that point, I weighed over 245 lbs. It has taken me until now, to get back to a "normal" diet that includes veggies on a daily basis! I am the turtle!

Losing weight, I have found, for me, has been about changing my life. Changing not only what I eat, but also how much I eat, how much I exercise, how I feel about myself, how I talk to myself, and now it is spreading out and influencing my attitude toward my house. I have been cleaning and organizing my house!

When people say it is a lifestyle change, they aren't kidding. Instead of saying you 'failed' at a low-carb diet - you should say that you learned that a low-carb diet wasn't for you!

Ok... I am getting off my soap box now!

This website has been a tremendous help... I know that this time - you will succeed in losing the weight!!

Red face

Thanks Guys!

I felt ashamed to post here again because I felt like I failed on the
the program so many times. but yes, I need a plan that will allow
all the foods I love without making me feel like I'm cheating.

I love to exersize I get up at 6:00 and workout I just can't start the day without it and I take dance classes too it's the
food part that's hard for me.

Talking

Certainly we all have particular things that we struggle with, Sweetmel (that's why we're all here, right?). But I think that the others have hit the nail right on the head: it isn't going to be fast, so base your plan choice on something else.

One thing that seems to work for me is this: I try not to allow myself to become too "results oriented." By this, I mean that I try to put it out of my mind just how much weight I plan to lose, how long it will take, etc. I just put my head down and get to work. I try to take each day as it comes, each meal as it comes. Then a couple of months later, I poke my head up* to see how I'm doing and I've lost nearly 20lbs!

*OK, it's WW, so you know what your weight is regularly, I'm just trying to illustrate that I don't let the number become my focus... I try to concentrate on the task at hand.

I realize that that probably seems like a slow rate compared to some other plans, but I know that it takes my brain a lot longer to catch on than I care to admit. I needed those 2 months to give my brain time to learn new food lessons. If I'd lost it in 2-3 weeks, I wouldn't have had a chance to actually learn anything. And since I will have to give my body/mind many more months to lose the rest of what I'd like to lose, I have every confidence that by the time I reach my weight goal, I'll have learned all the necessary lessons required to keep me eating healthy for many years to come without the fear of the pounds creeping back on!

Keep your chin up, Sweetmel. You can do it!

What finally put it in perspective for me, was a doctor telling me that if I sustained an average loss of only 1/4 lb per week (4 lousy ounces, only one pound per month! At my size! Sounds insignificant doesn't it? It sure did to me), that I would be doing better than 90% of people who want to lose weight.

It doesn't matter how much you lose week 1, or week 255, if you can keep your weight on a downward path, even if it's only a few ounces per week or even month, you're at the top of the class! You get an A plus. But how many of us, even those of us with only a few lbs to lose, would give ourselves a D- for anything less than 1 pound per week?

We've got to acknowledge how difficult this is. We may have an occasional week, especially early on, with a really big weight loss, but over time, it's going to average out to a much smaller, slower loss than any of us tend to think is "normal." We need to know that we're doing a lot better than we think we are, because we're comparing ourselves to people in magazines, and on tv shows, and ourselves when we were younger, or ourselves at week one.... We often expect a perfection in our behavior that no one (or maybe one person in ten thousand) could achieve. It's time to realize that we're thinking wrong, not doing wrong.

No, don't feel ashamed. All of us have been where you are and some of us still are. Like me. I cheat at times too, but you can turn it around. Really you can.

Come here and all of us will gather around you and keep you strong.

There are such nice people here and it helps me too!

Good luck.
