I am back on the healthy weight loss bandwagon and I remember that when the last time I did this it took close to 30pounds before I went down in size. Has anybody else experienced this before. I always thought it was like 10 pounds to lose a size.
I find that the less I weigh, the less I have to lose to fit into a size smaller. For example, when I was 200 lb I was size 16. When I hit 175 lb I remember I was size 13/14.
Now I'm 160 lb and I fit 11/12.
when I went down to 155 lb I fit into 9/10.
I don't think it's a rule that every 10 lb you lose a size.
I started at 212 and it took me 30 pounds to drop from an 18 to a 16. I went from a 1x to a Large (14) in tops. I'm a hair taller than the poster above who is fitting into a smaller size than I am for a given weight. I guess it's all based on your shape as well as your size.
Took me like 70 lbs. The larger a person is, the more weight it takes to go down a size, generally. I'm hoping another 30 & I'll go down again. Maybe after that another 20 - 30... and after that 15.... (Wishful thinking, I know!)
Another one of the crappy things about women’s sizing, is that above size 12 women’s sizes go up by 2 inches where sizes below 12 change by 1 inch. That is why it often takes longer to go down sizes when people start dieting. I also find that the smaller I am the quicker I am to buy the next size down sense I don’t mind my clothes being tight when I am smaller.
Ella13, that is so true about above size 12 the sizes switch by 2 inches instead of one. Back in high school I worked in retail (I was 140 and 5'9" back then and thought I was fat, GEESH!). The number on the piece of clothing is not solely based on your weight. Your height and body type have much to do with why people fit into certain sizes. Also there are different brands that put different number sizes on their clothing for marketing. I have seen slim women who fit into a size 16 and heavy women who fit into a 5. Also, especially with jeans with stretch in them, clothes you try on in the store are usually the tightest they are going to be and will expand with time (unless you shrink them in the wash).
It depends on where you carry your weight, and where you are losing the inches. I carry MOST of my weight in my belly. I wore a 24 when I started this diet - but my butt and legs were LOST in the masses of extra fabric when the pants fit my waist. After losing only 20 lbs, I was down 2 sizes to a 20. My 20s are getting too big now, and I have a few pair of 18s after losing 32 total. I do think that it depends on your own personal body type.
I carry all my weight on my hips/butt and chest and have a fairly small waist, so I have to wear a different size based on where the waist of the pants are! Even from one store, a pair of 14s that are supposed to ride low fit loosely, and a pair of 16s that ride a little higher fit the same. It's weird!
Im guessing it really depends on the person, and where you lose the weight. Cause, I went down about 2 sizes and have lost a little more than 30 pounds
Sizing is sooo different from shop to shop, I find Gap has massive jeans whereas Lee jeans are really tight. I have just put on 14lbs in the last two months (had a setback) and have gone from US size 8 to 10. So trying to lose the weight (again...) and hope I will end up US size 6-8 (UK8-10) at the goal weight.
