Default This call scared me to death!

My mom in law called me today around 1pm asking if I had heard anything about an explosion at the plant where my hubby works. A friend heard it on the police scanner that a propane tank exploded in the plant and various fire departments from around the area were sent to help. I freaked out and tried to call him. Of course there was no answer. The call went straight to voice mail. I kept trying numerous times but no answer.

I tried calling one of his friends and got his voicemail. I left a very frantic message for him to find Mike if at all possible and tell him to call me that I was worried about him. My brother was even on the phone trying to call people that he knew worked there and all he got was voicemails!

So MIL called her sister and asked for her daughters cell number. She works at that plant too. Kim answered and said it wasnt in the plant but out in the parking lot. I was relieved but worried why Mike wasnt answering his phone. I finally got hold of him about 2:30. He had his phone turned off! I told him all about the explosion and being worried sick. He just laughed about it. He said there was no explosion. Someone was smoking outside and had flicked their cig next to a pine tree and it caught fire. They sent the local fire dept to put it out. I had to tell him to find his buddy and delete the message. Im glad that I didnt call the plant. They wouldve thought I was looney!

Oh my gosh, that'd scare me too!

When I was younger (I think I was 12), during 9/11, My aunt picked me up from school and told me that my mom couldn't pick me up because two planes crashed into some buildings and it killed a lot of people.

I was like, "WHAT?!?!!"

She went on to explain the planes crashed in NEW YORK, not GEORGIA, and that my mom was stuck on base because the government shut down our base.

I freaked out!

We went through similar when that guy cut the bus driver's throat down in KY, sometime after 9/11. My daughter was on a Greyhound in NY. Nowhere at all near KY. But they shut down the entire Greyhound line worried about terrorism. I had a 16 yo stuck somewhere in the middle of NY, and we didn't even know which station they re-routed her to.

I remember 9/11 being a scary one for me that way too. I had just moved to Virginia and was 8 mos pregnant. No tv, and hubby was on the ship in Norfolk for duty. My aunt called and said... "there's been a terrorist act, I'm gonna come get you" She forgot to specify that it was in NY not on the ship.... I was freaking out. We should all remember to specify that type of stuff when we tell anyone bad news.

glad it was a misunderstanding and that your hubby is fine.

I'm happy your husband is fine - I'd be terrified as well. I hate it when people start spreading rumors/news before they know the full story.

That reminds of the time a neighbor had to have a foot of intestines removed, by the time the story made it's rounds it was that she had a foot amputated!
