Talking Woohoo! Decided to do it!

I swore that when I got married I would not get "comfortable" but still look good for my hubby!! Between years of being a perpetual dieter, work, and feeling comfortable, I was done worrrying sooo much about a couple of lbs. I am not overweight but I do have a little more cushion than I really need. I need to loose ~12lbs. and get back to how I looked when I got married. I'll be honest, I'm 24 and I want to look hot! My biggest biggest problem is sweets....oh my goodness chocoholic!! I always think of sweets! Does anyone have any suggestions????? I know of every sugar free substitute but if there is any stories of people who beat sweets, please share. Thanks for the support!

Hey there! Welcome!!!

Sweets are very tough for me, I love them SO much!!! Through my numerous years of dieting I have learned a few things.

*** They are not allowed in my house. This is for two reasons. The first is that when you eat sweets out they are portioned, you can have one candy bar or order one slice of cake, etc. It also makes it easier to account for the calories of whatever you count. The second reason is that I am not to be trusted. I will eat the entire cake in one sitting or over the course of a day.

*** If you can be trusted with them then there are so many low-fat, low-sugar options. No Pudge brownies are great. Krusteaz also makes a no-fat brownie mix. It's also easy to make single servings in the microwave.

*** You can make a great chocolate milk shake with fat free/ sugar free pudding mix with skim milk and ice in the blender. Beware that the pudding mixes are high in sodium.

*** Cocoa mix is great. I put it in my oatmeal sometimes. If I need something sweet sometimes I'll just eat the mix with a spoon. They have ones that are like 25 cals for a pack.

*** Have you heard of vitatops? They are muffin tops that are 100 cals, 6 g of fiber and pretty yummy. I like their double chocolate ones... YUMMY!!! (www.vitalicious.com)

*** Fruit smoothies are amazing. I make mine with the low-cal OJ (50 cals for a cup), frozen mixed berries and SPINACH (another poster on here gave me the hint). You can't even taste the spinach. It's a great tasting treat, gives you fruit and veggie servings. You can even add things like protein powder or pudding mix or yogurt.

I hope that these help! Also, I just saw in the grocery store that in the candy aisle many of the candy makers are making 100 cal candy bars (basically a smaller version of the original). If you can be trusted that might be a good idea for you. I can't be trusted

Good luck with everything and let us know how you are doing!

Thank you so much!! Yeah that is all great advice!! I think right now I fall into the "no sweets in my house", at least until I get control. Thanks again for all the great tips!

I am definitly with you on the not having control over sweets. I thought I could handle girl scout cookies if I "hid" them in my freezer. Yeah, guess what? I found them. Because I am not 3 years old and have a functional long term memory.

Never again!! To curb my sweet tooth, I will indulge in sugar free jello (10 calories, w00t!) or sugar free chocolate putting (60 cals). Also, 1 dark chocolate Hershey kiss is 20 calories, which settles the urge to eat an entire candy bar. The problem is, you can't buy A Hershey kiss. They come in a sinful bag full of sin. And we now know hiding the rest of the bag doesn't work! Hope this helps.

I like to make a smoothie with slimfast chocolate powder, 1/2 a banana, milk and ice. It tastes really good! Could help satisfy the chocolate craving.

That is so funny you mentioned girl scout cookies! I had an episode yesterday with those. Lets just say a long road trip and a box sitting on the passenger seat....not a good combo! You rationalize buying them because the girls are sooo cute

I don't have a major sweet tooth, so this is not my weakness, but what I do when I really want some chocolate or am gonna watch a movie and want to have a treat is to make a chocolate banana protein shake. LOL

I keep frozen banana slices in my freezer for just this purpose. (we make a lot of protein shakes in my house!!)

I take Muscle Milk Light Chocolate Milk powder and a frozen banana and about 10 ounces of ice cold water and blend it. I do not recommend the MM Light ready-to-drink, but the powder is great.

Also good are BSN Lean Dessert protein shake mixes which are IMO super super sweet tasting, but don't have a "fake sugar" taste. But I love the Muscle Milk Light. I know it says do not freeze, but I do sometimes take the shake and sit it in the freezer for a while just to make it extra cold (but not frozen). It seems more like something I shouldnt eat if it is super cold. LOL

I also have used frozen strawberries and bananas and Vanilla Ice Cream flavor protein (I think it was 100% Whey Gold, but not sure). Oh and natural peanut butter in the banana/choco shake. So good. LOL

glad I read this thread, slimmingdown, after reading your post I went to that vitalicious site and ordered myself some of those 'vita-tops', thanks for posting that! I think its going to be the perfect way to solve my chocolate craving without damaging my diet, and giving me an extra fiber boost. Perfect!

Not a problem. I LOVE them! I just got done having one for my mid morning snack.

Just a hint... you should freeze them b/c otherwise they will get moldy b/c there are no preservatives in them. The best way to eat them is to microwave one for 30 seconds, by that time it's thawed out and the chips are melty. I love them. Sometimes, if I REALLY have a sweet tooth, I'll buy some reduced sugar frosting and spread a tsp on top, not too many calories and it's sinfully delicious!

What really helps me:

Not having a daily sugar habit. Keeping dessert to more like once a week makes a big difference in cravings. Also avoiding refined grains and instead having whole grains.

Only having really, really worth it desserts. For me, that definitely does not mean fat-free or sugar substitute ... stuff. I'll have my sister's homemade super-rich coconut ice cream, thank you very much, and I'll have one small serving. And man, will I enjoy it!
