OMG...the funniest thing happened the other day at work. I work in a hospital and I had to attend a mandatory meeting on documentation. Well, the meeting was held in one of our conference rooms where they also hold WW meetings. Our meeting definitely got a bit long winded, so when the WW leader showed up, they told her she could quietly begin setting up for the WW meeting that she was running. I was bored out of my mind, so I kept watching the WW lady set up her stuff instead of paying attention to my own meeting. Well, they had a whole table of food set up for our meeting that included giant sized cookies, a bowl of punch and all kinds of other unhealthy treats. Our hospital obviously doesn't believe in nutrition for it's nurses . Anyway, while the WW lady is setting up her boxes of WW snacks and cookies I see her take one of the GIANT cookies and start eating it, then she hid it behind the boxes of WW cookies! I felt like I had just witnessed a crime! LOL! I couldn't stop watching her, as she would take a bite and then put it behind the boxes. Then, she poured herself a huge glass of punch and drank it like she had just run a marathon! It was like watching an episode of candid camera! I know WW runs on a point system, but I would think just one of those gigantic chocolate chip cookies and that huge glass of punch would be worth 2 days worth of calories!! (not really, but I'm sure it's a lot!) Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny and had to share. See, we are ALL human.
you just made me smile with that (and today has not been a good day, so i needed a smile). i can just picture her nibbling away at a giant cookie while preparing to talk to everybody about how to lose weight everybody needs a cookie every now and again (i could use one right now, but i'm fighting the emotional eating)
The core principle of WW is that you can eat anything, you just have to fit the points within your daily allotment. (of course when you're trying to lose weight, it's better that your calories come from nutritious food instead of junk food).
it's not so bad that she ate a gigantic cookie and a big gulp size of punch, big deal, she's at her target weight and can eat what she wants to maintain her weight. the sad part is she wanted to hide her behaviour - like sneaking food - it indicates that she still feels guilty about having (or having other people SEE she's having) a cookie.
I'm not judging her either way....I just think it's hysterical that she hid the cookie behind the boxes of diet cookies AND drank the punch like she just finished the NYC marathon! It was obvious she didn't want any of her WW members to walk in on her eating and drinking these things.
That's too funny. When I first started reading your posting, I thought maybe she had brought some of those new WW cookies that she would be selling at the meeting and that she had an opened box (or however they are sold, I haven't seen them yet) and given one to you since she knew there are not good choices available.
I am a nurse also and it is soooo true that hospitals always put crap out for the nurses attending meetings.
Or they do us a "favor" when we are busy by ordering pizza delivered to our unit.
I'd like to see hospital administrators start to think healthy and send veggy trays and fruit trays and nice, inventive salads to our unit instead of junk.
One of our mom's brought us "Incredible Edibles" fruit flower arrangement yesterday because she had heard us talking about dieting and using our pedometers at work. She decided that she would give us a gift of healthy food instead of junk. What a brilliant woman!
Very funny about the WW leader choosing the unhealthy cookie and punch over her own healthy choices she had brought for everyone attending the meeting.
Maybe she was hiding the cookie and drinking the punch fast not because she didn't want to get "caught" but because she didn't want to tempt the WW members; or maybe she didn't want them seeing her eating a giant cookie and thinking 'hey, she's WW and eating a giant cookie. Oh good, giant cookies are ok'; or maybe she's hypoglycemic and really need something to eat.

So true. At my hospital, we regularly get the "pizza" reward or drug reps bring in other fat or calorie-laden lunches. We even have a McDonald's in our hospital. I guess it helps keep the beds full!
THAT is great. I used to work at a gym full time, I always felt horrible about brining my food past people into the break room. I always had a starbucks too, if they only knew the calories in that.
