Default What do you do when you're overly stressed? I need ideas.

I am super stressed about work. Some jack a$$ I work with is trying to sabotage my job. I've talked to my boss and she advised me to sit down and talk to him about it. I am going to but not until a little later today. I am fighting a traffic ticket in court and I hired an attorney for it. My best friend was being a jerk but she's come to her senses and stopped treating me like crap. I just feel overwhelmed and I don't know how to feel better. Working out sometimes helps but I'm at work so I can't do that until tonight. Any suggestions?

1. Take 10 minutes, go to some quiet space, sit, and breathe. Just focus on breathing and being calm...meditating on calm thoughts. It can help just to get some deep breaths in.

2. Tense up your shoulders as tight as you can. Hold for 5 seconds, then release them. It has an instant calming effect.

3. Make a mug of tea. Take a deep breath in from the steam.

4. If all else fails, take a piece of paper and shred it by hand, into the tiniest pieces you can make. This behavior looks a little weird, but it usually calms people down (something about the tearing of the paper, I think...)

Ooh, another good one for work is taking pen to paper. Write a note expressing your feelings as if you're going to give the letter to everyone bothering you and then tear it into tiny pieces and throw it all away somewhere no one could dig it out of the trash. Otherwise, put a few sheets under a sheet of paper and scribble, circle, push real hard and just take all your stress out on the paper using the ink from your pen. I don't know, both of these have worked for me....

Do you have time to go for a drive in your car (I assume you don't take public transport to work..)? I would just go and drive, even for about 5/10 minutes, put on some music you love, and sing and dance in the car. It's not really so much about the driving as about the singing/dancing!! That always worked for me.......and I HATE DRIVING!

Or watch any youtube video of a baby laughing really really hard. Those are great as well!!
